Apprentice AME looking for advice
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum. I actually discovered it searching for a job as an AME.
I recently graduated from the école nationale d'aérotechnique in St-Hubert, Quebec, an approved training organization by Transport Canada, in the aircraft maintenance technology program and I need advice on how land a job in my field. Since I joined the program in 2011 and I have been applying for openings since then and I had little luck landing interviews, actually 4 interviews so far and I was not able to get the job because of my lack of experience as an AME. To me it was obvious when I applied that I was an apprentice and I simply want to work in a job which I enjoy and am passionate about.
I went to all the job fares in the Quebec province on the aerospace industry and seeing many familiar faces who were representing the many companies, I created network of people, made some phone calls to let them know I am very interested for the industry and I simply would love a chance to prove my worth.
But all my efforts are not bearing fruit, I went all out in the past 3 years searching for jobs and hoping. But lately, I have been slowly led to believe that I will not be able to get a job as an AME. I am still working as a janitor to make a living.
I am not complaining but more likely looking for hand to reach out and meet my hand half way or at least get some hints on how to get it done.
Now I am not sure if I should pursue my dreams or go back to school and go for bachelor degree in mechanical engineering and a masters in aerospace engineering.
Any advice would very helpful.
Thank you kindly fellow aviators

Re: Apprentice AME looking for advice
Have you tried looking for jobs outside of Quebec?
There have been a lot of postings for Apprentices lately out West.

Well you started in the wrong sites lol, should have started here! Also try smaller GA hangers in smaller towns, you might have to relocate and make less money to get started. Or maybe try working as a rampee and work your way up from the bottom.

Have you considered overseas work? Voyageur hires fresh apprentices if you're willing to work in Africa, great experience. AvCanada is a great source, check it daily, or several times a day, and apply to everything you're remotely qualified for. Something will work out. Could try contacting a contracting agency as well, if you can get in to some places and on the floor it may get your foot in the door.
