Air Canada Rouge AC1790 YYZ-Costa Rica. What Happened?
We were supposed to depart at 0805, a/c went mechanical. Mx was hoping for a quick fix, and were working on it. Flight Crew was pushing duty day so they got swapped. Around 1030 they say nogo and scrub the flight. Reschedule for 1330. Still no a/c, then they said 1430, still no a/c, now at 1500 they are saying 1630. Can anyone in the know tell me what the issue was, and why they keep pushing back the time? Is mx taking longer than they anticipated or are there delays bringing in another a/c entirely?

Not sure whats more frustrating sitting at the gate and being told 1/2 hour after departure time you are going to be delayed. Or sitting on the plane for 1/2 hour after your departure time waiting for someone to tell you why your sitting there with the door closed and not going anywhere. Either way A/C seems to becoming pro's at it. Amazes me when app's on your iPhone will alert you the flight is delayed and the gate agents stand there and tell you the flight is on time. Some how the app knows more then they do not that it takes a big imagination to see there is no plane at the gate and your departure is 1/2 hour away.

A/C = Aircraft
AC = Air Canada

A/C = Aircraft
AC = Air Canada

I guess I should write something here.

This is simple, really. You just march up to that flight deck, bang on the door, tell em' you're a pilot and demand answers.

The quick fix MX was hoping for obviously was not as quick as they thought....niss wrote:We were supposed to depart at 0805, a/c went mechanical. They keep pushing back the departure time because the aircraft has not been fixed in time for the originally planned departure times....

This post wasn't meant to vent about AC (except there ended up being plenty to vent about by the time we actually got here) I was just genuinely curious about what the mechanical issue was. Wondered if anyone in the know would know.

Creeping delays are the worst and everybody hates them including the airline. When something breaks of course they try and get an accurate estimate for how long it's going to take to fix it. They don't want to post too short a delay or it could begin to creep, and on the other hand too long and you can't leave beforehand even if the airplane gets fixed because the passengers filter away until the new departure time. It's a sometimes difficult balancing act depending on the problem.
Much better if you have a spare airplane but it doesn't sound like they did in this case.
