Logbook
Hey guys. I am wondering if anyone knows of a company that you can send in a logbook and they will bring it up to date?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Logbook
How exactly would that work ? Where would they get the information of the flights you actually flew ?
As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

I was sure that I read on here that there is a company that you can send your log book and the flight info and they will do the book. You have to have log sheets or a record of what you flown of course.

Re: Logbook
So you want someone to take all your flights which you have printed up and fill in your logbook?
Isn't this something you could just do in a afternoon?
If you really need someone to do this, just find a seceratry type on Craig's list or something.
Ether way you're going to have to sign your name to its accuracy, thus I'd just do it myself.

Jeeze charge at least 100$/ hour.
Unknownsoldier's time must be worth more then that or he is just extremely lazy.

Re: Logbook
I'll do it for $125/hr. With that I add smiley faces and lil hearts on each page to make the reviewer feel all warm and fuzzy about your hours.
Re: Logbook
I thought 35 was fair, about twice as much an encore pilot would make for their time

Re: Logbook
You could outsource. Odesk or Elance. Data entry, is real cheap. I recommend India, good enough english and not as rude as the Chinese.

I will give you $2500 and a handjob for the privilege of updating your logbook. This is the Canadian aviation jobmarket afterall.

Give me 5K and we have a deal....plus you ll get a chance of updating bigger and nicer logbooks in a year or two. (after signing an logbook updating training bond) In the mean time, ill have you move pallets of logbook around so you get familiar working with logbooks.

Re: Logbook
If you find out there is something like that, soldier, count me in. I am both extremely lazy AND I haven't filled in my logbook since 2008 or so. At first it seemed like a pain in the ass so I decided to wait until the weekend, and then on the weekend I was too lazy to want to do a whole three days' worth, so I decided that I would do it all at once sometime the next week when I wasn't busy, and then when next week came along it seemed like an even bigger pain in the ass so I decided to wait until I had a few days off, and so on.
Let me know what you find out. I would love to have my logbook filled out. Just not enough to do it myself.

If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself

That seams tough but fair. I assume you hire internally for chief logbook updater? Will I have an oppourtinity to grow with your outfit?rob-air wrote:niss wrote:I will give you $2500 and a handjob for the privilege of updating your logbook. This is the Canadian aviation jobmarket afterall.

Re: Logbook
I know it sounds cool to brag to all your flying buddies "I haven't done my logbook in years" but . . .
Given that pilots are largely a commodity:
1) You are pretty much worth the total time, time on type, and recent experience; and
2) Licenses and ratings held, including type ratings and valid PPC's;
I am largely surprised the pilots don't give a little bit more effort to ensure that this documentation is better maintaned. Your career depends on it.

Re: Logbook
In 28 + years and 6 companies, I have never had anybody ask to see my logbook and the last job told me to round my total time to the nearest thousand.
The only reason I keep my log book up to date is because I have to fill out those stupid insurance company annual renewal forms. I am on the insurance policy for several private airplanes plus my 1.5 machines with four different underwriters who all have different forms.

Re: Logbook
Results may vary. The last 3 airline interviews I had, the companies did due diligence with a fine-toothed comb on the applicants' logbooks (including the requirement to have the flight times certified correct by previous employer). That was in addition to the technical knowledge exam, CRM assessment, personal and aviation knowledge interview, and simulator assessment to figure out whether there was substantial evidence from piloting skills to back the thousands of hours applicants claimed to have.Big Pistons Forever wrote:In 28 + years and 6 companies, I have never had anybody ask to see my logbook and the last job told me to round my total time to the nearest thousand.
Weeding out applicants who have falsified their claims and logged Parker P52 time has become an issue overseas.
One buddy had a grand ole time trying to construct a logbook for his upcoming interview after not having made any entries in about 8 years.
In your case, Big Pistons Forever, it may be a case that you have sufficient reputation in the industry- you are not entirely unknown in the industry circles where you make your living, so companies already have a pretty good idea about your qualifications and experience level.

Panama
Just out of curiosity were any of the 3 airlines you mentioned Canadian ? I ask that because I believe P51 time is much more of an issue in many foreign countries, particularly those in the Eastern Hemisphere.
In any case I am an aviation professional and I view an accurate, up to date, and neat logbook as one demonstration of that professionalism, therefore I find it difficult to think kindly of the original poster who appears too lazy to even want to put the effort into doing his own logbook entries.....

Re: Logbook
Of course you are an aviation professional, and most likely known as such.
The 3 airlines I mentioned are not in Canada, and yes, P51 time is an issue in our industry. I have found myself in the unpleasant situation of trying to explain to the person why I am refusing to endorse entries in their logbook (and the otherwise pleasant person quickly turns shitty about it) because I felt that the entries were not an accurate representation of what actually happened.

Re: Logbook
I've never had a real written paper log book. All digital. As each page fills up it gets printed, put in a clear sleeve (double sided) and sealed. Any stamps and aircraft endorsements goes on the printed papers. The printed one is nice to have as a back up (I keep it in a safe place) incase I somehow loose the digital file. However the file is great because it can tally up hours in many different ways. PIC, SIC, Night, XC, Dual, Time on type, Wheels vs. Floats, Etc. Etc. All in an easy to read front page format (with the totals).
It will take years to fill up a 2'' binder.

Re: Logbook
I agree totally on the comments about being professional. I ended up in "the" job and once there I kept records, but no entries in my logbook. This goes on for a while and bang... your way behind.. Now I want to see when I should have thrown my Ten thousand party... haha Thanks for the input fellas. Made me laugh!

Lol! I was in the same situation, 2-3 years behind. I missed my 10K party by 1300 hours!unknownsoldier wrote:Now I want to see when I should have thrown my Ten thousand party...

If you're not looking for a job, what's the big deal waiting a couple years to transfer your flight times to your log book? If you are throwing resumes out then you probably should be up to date.

Re: Logbook
Go check mccpilotlog (Google it) !
For around 70$, the software let you connect directly to your airline online portal and will download all available data as far as you are able to see when you log on yourself.
So if you have been with the same airline for a while, this is a simple and extremely quick fix.
Plus, you don't have to log anymore....ever ! Just hit the "sync" button once in a while and that's it
