Jaques, you are going to get that everywhere, right from the bearskins vs wasaya etc. Can you think back to your last job? I think there is always talk about your competition wherever you work and don't be so bold as to say it doesn't happen at AC. I was there and it surly was there. It is the nature of the beast insecurity or not. I personally don't care myself but the koolaid is there at AC too....or people wouldn't be slagging WJ right and defending pensions and erj's....
I remember a few years ago speaking to a fellow who went to the Westjet Shareholders meeting.
They had a staged boxing match. Full "ring".... the whole production. Then came the fight.
"In this corner we have Clive Beddoe......loud cheer!"
"In this corner we have Robert Milton......REAL LOUD Bo...!"
He said it was the most childish thing he had ever witnessed and left the meeting.

that is lame...glad I missed it too if that was the case. WJ has and is still growing thick skin because face it. AC slags it in the press for years and vice versa...Tango and Zip were put in to directly hurt them and it goes on. At one time WJ was going into a partnership with AC. If you had someone trying to take away your property or force you into a smaller house what would you do? human nature that's all....not too hard to figure out is it. Just think back as to why AC and Canadian were hard at the fighting and it's still going on today even internally.Johnny767 wrote:I remember a few years ago speaking to a fellow who went to the Westjet Shareholders meeting.

At the end of the day, however... aren't we all colleagues?
Looking back to your Bearskin vs. Wasaya comment, FL, I was a JV for a few years, and I personally didn't see any antagonism between the two outifts... particularly pilot to pilot. I had a couple of friends from my pre-Bear days that ended up there, and it certainly didn't sour our relationships. Through the shuffle in '03-ish a lot of the guys I worked with ended up at Wasaya, too. We were friends before and still friends after.
I am no fan of WestJet, but a lot of these same guys/gals went there after JV... they're still good people and I certainly don't wish them ill. Hell, my old man and his before him are/were at AC, and my uncle was at CP/Canadian... it never caused any rift in our family--other than between my dad and his brother's wife... but that's another story!
If one outfit or the other resorts to questionable tactics--base accusations in the press, bizarre propaganda rallies, predatory pricing, crying foul at every competitive move... whatever!--it shouldn't be taken as a comment on the pilots who work there. We all still just drive the airplanes!
My point is only that these are two different airlines that are toe-to-toe in Canadian aviation, with two very different approaches in their business models and in some regards two very different groups of employees (read pilots). When all is said and done, however, we all still do the same job, a lot of us have worked together or grown up together or whatever and why it must result to personal slagging is beyond me. I certainly have my favourite of these two carriers, but I don't want to see any of my colleagues back in the unemployment lines and I don't now regard any co-workers/friends that have gone to the Teal Team in a different light.

Small correction - that was a birthday party, not a sharehodler's meeting. Regardless, many of the employees who watched that 'show' took offence at the poor choice of kicking AC when it was down. Quite a number of our employes have come over from AC, Canadian, Air Transat, C3, etc., and some of their husbands/wifes/friends/family/etc still work 'over there.'
In an industry that flip-flops as much as this, it doesn't make any sense to slag the other guy, when you might be working for them (or them for you) in a year or two.
Clear skies and calm winds...
