Experimental aircraft hour logging
Hi guys,
Does anyone know where in the CAR's I can find the rules for logging hours in experimental aircraft to use towards higher license ratings?
For example: A person could have SEL rating on their private pilot licence (or any licence) and their friend has an experimental aircraft on floats that he wants to use to get his float rating endorsement on his license.
I know that this situation is completely legal, but I can't find the reference in the CAR's.

Re: Experimental aircraft hour logging
There are no rules for logging time on experimental aircraft. They are treated the same as certified aircraft.
Some experimentals are registered as ultralights though so in that case it would be treated like an ultralight.

There are no references in the CARs relating to it because there's nothing special about it.

The only rules apply to the equipment in the aircraft. For example to do a night rating the aircraft would have to have the equipment specified in CAR 605.16
I did 2 PPL's in an uncertified foreign X military primary trainer that was flying under a limited C of A and nobody at TC had any problem with that. All of the time they logged can and in both cases, has been applied to a higher qualification.

The difference between Amateur Built and 'Certified' are their basis for certification. An Amateur Built aircraft simply has a different CofA... just like a Restricted C of A (air tankers and ag planes), a Provisional C of A (newly constructed aircraft), an Owner Maintenance C of A, or a Limited C of A (warbirds).
We log time based on the class of aircraft we operate.... not how they are certified.

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
