Re: Super Dave gets wings clipped...
Are all acro pilots jackasses or just the popular ones discussed on this forum? I seriously ask because as time goes on I lose more and more interest in one day getting involved with airshows and these clowns...
Re: Super Dave gets wings clipped...
Fine. But we're talking about airports informally asking the whole rest of the world to orbit while someone finishes his routine. That's not going to happen.AirFrame wrote:Actually, you can. It's called issuing a NOTAM.Rookie50 wrote:Not cool at all. You can't reserve the airspace to yourself.Chilliwack probably is the most "remote" airport in the lower mainland... Except maybe Hope, but it's grass and he's probably got tiny wheels. If it's that much of an issue I'd suggest relocatation to a remote airport. My $0.02.
Remote -- try 100 mile house. Shouldn't be an issue.

If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself
Re: Super Dave gets wings clipped...
Does anyone have a CARS reference for this?As one of very few holders of such an SFOC in Canada I can assure everybody it does not give any special privilidges except waiving the 2000' AGL rule for acro. You cannot interfere with other traffic, you cant overfly assemblies of people etc.
Re: Super Dave gets wings clipped...
a runway underneath is extremely important when doing real acro. Engines stop, things break etc so can make things safer. Also its not possible to learn aerobatics properly up high. The references are all wrong, the ground does to rush up at you, the engine power is different etc. wind correction and positioning is instantly obvious... Imagine learning to do an instrument landing at 2000ft ...Being directly over the airport doing aerobatics is not considered a practice area. Rather then being a show off show some respect
So there are good reasons to use an airport and it can be very safe and non annoying if kept to brief flights in between other operations.

Easy to find with Google.. The letter you receive clearly states that "nothing in this letter" ... exempts you from adhering to the CARS. It only waives altitude and stipulates no passangers.
No provisions for shutting down airports or airspace, those are different SFOCs, much much much harder to get.

I understand why you might think that. It's the persona, the image and feeling you get when you think you know a person, but haven't actually met them or spent time with them.PositiveRate27 wrote:Are all acro pilots jackasses or just the popular ones discussed on this forum? All of the air show professionals I've met and worked with are a great group that would give selflessly to help out a fellow aviator. This includes Dave M.
When you call someone a jackass or clown that you don't know, it's more indicative of your character than theirs.

And here is a update and apology from super dave, saying the same as I have been for the past year.. we all have to grow up and work together.. let's hope that he's sincere and everyone on the "otherside" thinks the same way. We all are just trying to make a living in this roller coaster of an industry.

Ain't that the truth. That interview was refreshing, and the first actual constructive step I've seen from anyone since this whole thing came to light. Solving interpersonal problems become a whole lot easier when you set your ego aside and focus on solving the problem rather than just winning. Perhaps Dave needed this time out for an attitude adjustment. Now that Dave has extended the olive branch maybe the parties involved will be able to talk rather than shout and come to a solution that is acceptable for everyone.

Hear, hear! I hope Dave can find a way to move forward.
