Can anyone make out the reg of the Canso? IDS or IOS?? The Cessna 180 JEN is around Selkirk. The Cub LVS is at Savant Lake. The Goose in the background I think is IWW.Liquid Charlie wrote:Damn -- if that doesn't bring back memories --

Jeeze I am tired of replying to myself.
Anyways the Goose on the extreme left should be CF-HUY.

The Canso is CF-IDS.
It was purchased by Barney in late 1958 or early 1959.

Thanks Beech. I have no information on this Canso. I was just taking a wild guess as to the era being mid 1960's.beech 18 wrote:April 28, 2015

Antique pilot
The photo may have been taken in the early 1960's.
Just looking at the book "Ontario Central Airlines - The Kenora Years".
It is mentioned in the book that Canso IDS was sold in 1962.
It was replaced with Canso CF-OWE in 1963.

Beech 18,
Thanks very much. Well that pretty much confirms the time, prior to 1962-63. I wonder where that Canso went?

It mentions in the "OCA - Kenora Years" book that Barney made a deal
with Pete Lazarenko and IDS went over to Northland.

IDS was involved in a mid-air collision with Canso HTN over a forest fire on Sept 1, 1971 north of Fort Smith NWT.
Both aircraft were destroyed.
IDS was operated by Norcanair.

My first flying job in Cessna 180 JEN for Bearskin in 1972. Thanks to Murray Wood for the recommendation.

Last time I flew that PBY CF-OWE was for Austin Airways, can't remember the year though...
......hell I can't remember my name some days.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

My goodness, that postcard brings back memories. Many a refreshing brew was sipped in that warehouse.

^ Agreed, BWS. was the potato gun around when you were there?
Anybody got a recent photo of Ball Lake - I last flew over about 10 years ago, and it looked in rough shape.

^ It was.
I last flew by Ball Lake 18 months ago. Some structures were burnt down or just wrecked. The bush is slowly retaking it. Shame.

I can still see Barney greeting and walking guests down the red carpet. Shaking their hand with his right hand and his left hand patting their wallet. An OCA standing joke!!
