What a tragedy. Mike Black was a class 1 friend. I had the pleasure of doing much of his CPL training in 1997 and somehow kept in touch with him ever since. He had an electrifying personality and was a general riot to be around. I don't think I have ever met anyone that could use Top Gun lines in context as well as Mike could. You will be missed buddy. See you on the other side.

Rev, Mike & CGL,

We love & miss you guys, we know you are watching over us. Two of the best guys anybody could've met, thanks for being apart of our lives.

CGL - You were a great ship.

The NT Air family has so many amazing people, and everybody has done such a fantastic job. Thumbs up to everyone who helped bring these boys home to us.

From myself and the rest of the NT Air staff,

Mike, Mike & C-FCGL....... Rest in Peace.

What a loss for this whole community. All those who knew Mike Black know that it was nothing less than a privilege. He had an unforgetable sense of humour, an infectious smile. The only guy I know who could pull off flip-flops in the dead of winter. Rest in peace Mike.

My sincerest condolences to his family and all of the crew at NT.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with Mike Black back on the ramp in Kelowna. I lost touch with him in the years past, but I never will forget the fun and hijinks that spontaneously occurred whenever he was around. Even when he put gas in a diesel truck! It was a genuine hoot knowing him, if only for a few months. He was a one of a kind character, and the world is that much emptier without him.

My sincerest condolences to family and friends.

Hello Mrs. Black,
Again Iam so sorry for your loss. When I met you on the ramp there near the Buffalo, I could tell you were a superb mom. I also got the sense that is were Mike got his "open arms attitude" from.
Like I mentioned before, I would see them off every morning, and Mike would always have a smile on his face that would light up the hanger, flip flops and all.
The lord be with you and take care.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Black,

Thank you for posting. I never met your son, but this incident reminds me how much it could have been me. We both fly similar aircraft, had a familiy, we have both flown out west, had hopes and dreams and ambitions. Judging from what I have read, I am sure the earth was a better place when he was here. My prayers for you and your family. God Bless.

I too worked with Mike Black on the ramp in Kelowna. Although it was a brief time I always remembered his humor and that he had a great heart.

I was pleasantly surprised when I moved up north that he had gotten on with NT and over the past year and a half had many chances to see him.

I think we at CMA/NT are in shock and disbelief right now. This is such a huge loss.

My condolences to the Black and Bracht families.

I'll miss you Rev

Thoughts and Prayers !

Post by TR Deployment »

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Black,

I am very sorry to hear about your great son Mike. I watched Mushroom grow in to a excellent pilot when living in Ft. Mac, his passion for this business was contageous. We spent many days laughing and helping each other out as we progressed through our careers at Air Mikisew. I will never forget the many many memories we shared together. He was a great inspiration in not only my life but everyones lives he touched. He will be missed sadly by all his friends here in Calgary and Ft. McMurray. If there is anything we can do from this part of the country please feel free to call me. I will be travelling to Vancouver on Wednesday and returning through Kelowna back to Calgagy Thursday or Friday so if there is anything we can do to help just give us a shout. Once again our thoughts and prayers are with your family and all Mikes friends wherever they may be.

Sincerely,

Chris Lucey

The last time.

I first met mike bracht a few years ago when we were both finishing our instructor's rating at PFC. I hadn't seen him since, until we both were in PASCO's ground school for the king air. He attended all of our grounschools, but then the NT air opportunity became available and I was happy to hear that he got on. The next time I saw michael was the morning of his last. We were taxiing in our companys be-200 for charlie for 26L; there in front of us, in the opposite direction was NTs 200. They gave way to us, and i recognized mike on the radio. I gave him a thumbs up, and thanked them for letting us in front. I didnt't know Mike well enough to call him a friend, but there was a mutual respect. We had both struggled the ranks of crap and embarrasing jobs to finally have our chance at doing what we all dream about. I was trully happy when our paths crossed once again, and sadlly for the last time.

to the families;
Im sure words dont suffice nor heal at this time, but know your boys had
many friends and touched many lives while they were here and they will survive in many peoples hearts and minds.

I'm not good with words as there is a flood to say but here goes:I knew "Blackmagic" since I first came to this beautiful place. He took me under his wing and showed me the ramp ropes. He taught me how to push airplanes and kick ass doing it. "We worked side by each" for hours on end, each of us pushing the other when we got tired. "My BC brother" I called him. We had become family. It wasn't a coincidence how I met him but rather part of a big plan. I love that guy and anyone who shared in his life is extremely priveleged. His smile and laughs, his lovely ..ahem... french expressions and his lust for life. He has left a resounding impression on my life and I will never forget all the stories.
This morning was a particular rough one and as I left for work, I took a quick glance at the stars saying;"there are 2 more up there" and just when I was saying that I saw a shooting star.
Angels on our shoulders.

It is a wonderfull thing to sit here and read how Michael has touched so many lives in so many ways....He has been so many things to me over the years I feel blessed to have had him in my life, blessed to have watched him grow personally and professionally. He was magic to be with, his passion, his laughter, his sweetness...lol...with just enough bad boy in there to keep you guessing, his thoughtfullness, his ability to reach out and touch people with all those little things he does daily...yesterday was the first day I had checked my email since the accident and there were two from him....I cried and smiled at the same time as the emails were his usual style with quick humor and a touch of cheek.....He always said it was the little things that really mattered and how true is that....so look for those little things!

I have been asked to post this message.

To the flying community

Michael Bracht’s Parents and family write

To all of you who have sent your condolences and sympathies on our loss we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Your thoughts and prayers have given us comfort and strength.
We did not realize the close alliance of the flying community and understand better the love that the boys had for flying and for their friends.
Michael had worked so hard and sacrificed so much to reach this point in his career and told us, only very recently, that he was never so happy as now having fulfilled his dream and working for such a great company.
Again many thanks for your comments and sharing the sorrow with us

I remember the first day I met Mike Black (Mike the pilot as I call him), WOW, did he ever make an impression, and since that day he's had a special place in my heart. Where he will forever stay.

Mike was an awesome guy who spoke very highly of all his family and friends and especially of his little boy. He loved everyone so much. He was a guy with a huge heart and so much love to share and I was blessed to be among the many that had a piece of his heart.

We always had so much fun together and not a moment went by that he wasn’t flashing that beautiful smile of his or making me laugh with some silly joke or expression, and he had the world’s best hugs, a hug from him and the whole world stood still for that moment.

I miss him more than words can say.

To his family and friends - you are all in my thoughts.

I didn't have the pleasure to know Mike Bracht, but from what I've heard he was a terrific guy - my condolences to his family and friends.

What a huge loss it is to lose two very special men.

I love you Mike, always have, always will, you are forever in my heart, my thoughts, and my memories. I miss you like crazy. "you silly banana"

may you both rest in peace

I only knew Mike Black for a short period of time but he definetly made his mark. He was always there to help out when anyone needed him. No question was too stupid and he always made time for you even if he didn't have the time. He was always smiling and could light up a room when he entered it.

I thought waiting to find out if they were ok was the worse, but with each day that passes and each tear that falls, I realize its equally hard accepting the fact that I wont hear the happiness and free spirit in his voice anymore. No matter how dark the cloud was he always brought us sunshine.

I unfortunately never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Bracht but from what I understand he was equally wonderful.

Again my condolences to the families, the pilots and co-workers and management that were blessed with their presence. It is a tragic loss.

Hi everyone,

My name is Ted Morgan and Mike Bracht was my best friend. We’ve known eachother for nearly twenty years. I followed him out to the west coast three years ago.

Mike told me everything about flying and I loved to listen. He relished being part of your community, always talking about the calibre of people he worked with.

The concern, class and solidarity that’s been expressed through your messages says everything as to why flying was Mike's calling. Being in aviation did the most honour to the type of person he was. Mike was quite simply an exceptional human being.

I will miss him beyond words.

I was not a good friend of Michael Bracht's, but he was an instuctor at my old flight school at one point. He was one of those guys that stood out from the crowd. Always a smile and a pleasant greeting, funny, smart and outgoing. He was not my instructor, yet he always was more than willing to help and stay behind on his own time to help anyone. Thanks for your support, time, good conversation and laughs Mike...I'll miss ya.

My deepest thoughts and feelings are with the families, friends, co-workers and all others who's lives were touched by these two gentlemen.

I had the pleasure of working with both Mike Black and Mike Bracht at Millionair Vancouver. They were exceptional co-workers, exceedingly dedicated to their jobs and career flying goals. Both were terrific guys, and I am greatly saddened to learn of their passing. Indeed a very tragic loss to the aviation community. On behalf of myself, my husband Andy, and the entire staff at Harbour Air Seaplanes, our sincerest condolences and sympathies to family, friends, and NT Air. May you rest in peace gentlemen!

I met Blackie 7 years ago working the ramp at Canadian Airlines, and he quickly stood out among the others there. He then moved up to YMM, and 1 month after arriving he helped me get my first job in aviation. I will be forever grateful for that assistance in the beginning of my career. I remember we both went winter boot shopping in -40C weather, and when the saleslady saw him in his flipflops, she almost fainted, but that was Mike for you.

Years ago at my first medical, I saw a sign that said something like "Old pilots don't die, they just buzz off".....
