Well I'd like to second Wasn't Me's post. I'm not sure what was going on up front that they ended up in the rhubarb, but kudos to the cabin crew for a job spectacularly done. The fact that every one of the 300-odd pax made it out is a testament to them.

Well done, folks!

Alright, they crew did a great job. I'd buy everyone of them a beer for a great job on gettin everyone out in time.

As for what was going on up front, sounds like we got alot of experts here just like on tv, I highly doubt that there were sittin drinking some margarita's on final, would you do this, give me a break. Its these attitudes that piss me off in this industry.
Maybe they were doing something but until it is out by the investigation don't sit there sayin that you know/think this cause you don't know.

From AF's website:
Air France is paying homage to the entire crew : to the Captain, to the First Officer and to the cabin crew. Their calm and professionalism have prevented a drama.

Before being hospitalised, the first officer made a last check around the aircraft to make sure that no passengers remained on board.
Once again, well done, folks... well done.

And back to what you guys are saying about this little tidbit disappearing from the headlines as soon as it was apparent that no one was dead... what a sad, disgusting commentary on our media. I couldn't find anything but a tiny video buried in a corner on CNN's site. Too bad no one was killed... Wolf could have talked about it for a solid week. Poor, hard-done-by CNN...

I find that us pilots tend to get so caught up with all the negative things in this industry. When I first heard about this accident, I almost wept. When the news came out that all had survived I was ecstatic. Unfortunate that the accident happend, but finally some good news.

Truly miraculous.

Just a thought: Last time everyone was praising the actions of the flight crew this much was the Air Transat crew that landed engines out in the Azores. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a similar case.

So what other decisions can aircrew make? – Besides continue and land!

Aircrew face enormous pressure to complete the flight to the intended destination, and do it on time. Besides the operational pressure, there are your peers and the competition ahead and behind you. Everyone ahead has landed and everyone behind intends on landing. Pack Mentality, we attempt things in a group where we might not if we were alone.

This type of scenario develops in many other circumstances both at metropolitan airports and northern community centers. And the same pressure can be imposed on both high time and low time aircrews. To deny that this type of pressure does not exist or that you are above the “Pack” will not allow you to do anything else, besides what the “Pack” has decided.

I believe these circumstances present some of the toughest challenges for aircrew to overcome, because preventative Decision Making cannot be measured as a success or a failure – although the dollar cost and inconvenience is easily measured and visible.

Personally I’ve been lucky when running with the Pack, although I’ve had the ____ scared out of me on more than one occasion.

Good post, dgeb.

I think we've all at one time--or more--questioned whether continuing an approach given the current weather was a great idea, and then pressed on only because others were getting in ahead of us. That's certainly information to be factored into your decision-making, but not to exclusion of all other considerations.

Well, if nothing else, this will be a model example of emergency egress in future cabin crew/CRM courses...

I am sorry I did not take typing lessons in school. As well the G and J are close to each other and I did not proof read it like I should have, but thank you for being so kind and letting me know. You can now anticipate a forward of all my replies before I send them out so you can proof them so this will never happen again and I as well as you can then sleep well at night. Jack $#s

Not to bash the "experts" in the media anymore, but they should really put some more effort into what they present. Initial reports I can understand but it is now more than 24 hrs later. I heard this on the news tonight about the ATC tapes
It was more or less

"Air F____ flight ___ you are now cleared for the (inaudible) runway 24 L"

The inaudible word was clearly ILS. All you had to do was listen. Not that the general public is going to care, but common research a little or find someone that knows what they are talking about.

As to the causes of this crash, as previously stated the answer should be no comment

Yeah, I noticed that too. I wonder if it malfunctioned or if they just didn't bother. Maybe they can't deploy with flames nearby... although I think I'd be more worried about my body than the slide in the fire... :?

I read somewhere that a couple of slides malfunctioned, which might be the reason some people had broken legs and spinal injuries.
