Air Transat Jumpseat

Post by Krimson »

Anyone have experience with using the reciprocal jumpseat with international travel?

What are the chances getting on mid-August from Europe?

Go to the crew counter with your pilots license, company ID in tow and a RAIC if you have one. Be there at least 1.5 hours before the flight. Once the flight closes if there is a free seat you'll be issued a ticket. It costs you Zero dollars.

Basically its the way it should be easy and free..

And Mid August is peak season, but I've managed to use standby travel at this time of year, give yourself lots of options just in case.

Good Luck

If you're an American pilot, bring your Medical too. We never check but technically, without it, your licence is just another pretty card.

As mentioned above, easy and free, assuming of course the company you fly for has an agreement with Air Transat. A good way to see if there are seats available is to search on Air Transat's site to see if you can book seats on the desired flight. That will give you an idea of how full the flight is, but you never know how many other standby's there might be.

Hi!

As mentioned above, this is going to be the peak season. However, your chances of getting on will depend on your point of origin. London, Paris have augmented capacity (up to 375 seats) to Montreal and Toronto. If you're travelling out west the capacity us usually around 340 seats. Most of the time there is an empty seat waiting to be filled by a fellow pilot.

Don't forget to pack lightly!

I'd say it will be a crap shoot at best. Loads fluctuate continuously, and a 330 flight can get switched to a 310 if the loads aren't strong enough, but that decision happens the month before. Our goal, as with everyone else, is to sell every single seat. It
happens a lot in the summer. Best bet is to have other options through Zed fares, and then refund them when you don't need 'em. You'll probably get on, but cover your butt. Just saying.

Thanks! I am looking for ATH-YYZ, but I won't have many options if it doesn't work out, so for this time I think I will play it safe until I get more comfortable with jumpseat travel.

Usually we have 2 flights out of ATH pretty much at the same time. One going to YYZ and the other going to YUL. IMHO you should be able to get on (at least back to Canada). There is often some no shows, especially when you're moving close to 700 people.

If you have J/S with Rouge, this would be another option! Access to Z-fare would make your planning a little bit less stressful as mentioned earlier!

I had a jump seat on air canada from Paris to YYZ a few years ago, last second my plan fell apart due to some problem with AC plane which made 30 stby showing up at the gate !

I realised that AT was leaving from the same airport and went to the gate. I was nicely welcomed, put on a flight direct to YUL and was seated in the Plus seats. Didn't cost me a penny !

Sounds great. I have heard nothing but good things travelling standby with Transat, looking forward to giving it a try!
