IATRA required to fly a 604 registered aircraft?
Do you need an IATRA if you fly a private registered aircraft under 604 rules that is over 12,500lb?
Re: IATRA required to fly a 604 registered aircraft?
So maybe. 604 or not has nothing to do with the IATRA. If the aircraft requires a type rating (2 crew or high performance) and you don't have an ATPL, you will need to have passed the IATRA or the ATPL exams in order to get the type rating, regardless of what part you are flying under.(3) Individual Type Rating Requirements
(a) Aeroplane - Two Crew
(i) Knowledge
An applicant for an individual aircraft type rating for aeroplanes with a minimum flight crew requirement of at least two pilots shall have completed a program of ground school instruction and flight training on the aeroplane type, and

Exactly....If aircraft type requires a type rating, you need atpl or IATRA. Most , if not all, aircraft over 12500 require a Type rating.

IATRA is an easy exam, just study for a bit and you should be good to go. I forgot a calculator when I wrote it and still passed with a decent margin.
FYI, a wiz wheel is good at multiplication/division. Addition and subtraction better be easy enough with a pen and some scrap paper.

What if it is a single pilot airplane that is run two crew?
The rules for the type rating indicate that the airplane has to be minimum two crew, not flown two crew. So if a CPL were to go right seat on a PC12 for example, would he need the IATRA? Would the captain need ATPL?

Re: IATRA required to fly a 604 registered aircraft?
The way the aircraft is operated has no effect. Minimum flight crew requirements refers to the type certificate of the aircraft.
Re: IATRA required to fly a 604 registered aircraft?
If the aircraft you are flying is certified single pilot (e.g. the King Air 200), the Captain does not require an ATPL nor does the First Officer require an IATRA.

Actually, docbrad pointed out something i haven't thought of...what about the single pilot certified citations? PIC obviously needs a type rating, but does the SIC? Whether or not the SIC requires a type rating would determine whether or not they require the IATRA.Docbrad wrote:What if it is a single pilot airplane that is run two crew?

Re: IATRA required to fly a 604 registered aircraft?
And if it is a single pilot airplane flown two crew, does the FO log co-pilot time?
I'm currently flying 172's for areal patrol, which is obviously a single pilot machine, but the spotter can't log the flight time... Then again, the spotter isn't "flight crew"

Re: IATRA required to fly a 604 registered aircraft?
Wally if the ops manual states the aircraft is operated 2 crew, the SIC would require a type rating to qualify as the second crew member. Would have to meet all training requirements in the ops manual actually.

That discussion is for another thread, but short answer is no.Docbrad wrote:And if it is a single pilot airplane flown two crew, does the FO log co-pilot time?

No, the short answer is Yes. If a single pilot airplane is operated by two crew (the citation is an excellent example) both pilots would log the time. In docbrad's example there is only 1 pilot. If docbrad's company had the 172 operated as a 2 crew machine in their COM both pilots would log the timewallypilot wrote:That discussion is for another thread, but short answer is no.Docbrad wrote:And if it is a single pilot airplane flown two crew, does the FO log co-pilot time?
