Logging SE Right Seat Time?
I'm sure this has been answered before... but my AvCanada search-fu is weak this afternoon (half-hour later, and all I found was people bickering about logs in general).
So, my questions is this: I'm looking at getting into the right seat of an SE plane. Now, the company does operate two-crew, so it's all log-able time, however, how do you log this in the paper log? Every one I've seen out there generally only has SIC columns for ME planes, and logging it as dual seems like an issue down the road for getting my ATPL signed off without fuss by Transport. What do you folks think? (And, what have you done in this situation before with your paper log?)
PS: I should note that I keep an excel version of my log as well; adding an SIC column there is not really an issue.

If at first you don't succeed, maybe NDB approaches just aren't for you

Re: Logging SE Right Seat Time?
Seems to me that the makers of paper log books ought to try and update their product, possibly for the first time since 1928 or so. This keeps coming up. PC 12s and C208s aren't even new anymore.
To answer your question: I don't know.

Well what is the plane?
Log it under dual and just keep track or use the extra column at the end of the logbook page. If it isn't a Pilatus, Piper Jet or Meridian or Caravan get a job that will give you REAL experience.
As far as TC, you will have an uphill time explaining to them how that should be counted if it isn't at least turboprop.
FYI, I had a hard time getting my survey Navajo right seat time approved, not that I needed it when I applied for my AAs and there IS a column for that

Re: Logging SE Right Seat Time?
I flew a van multi-crew and definitely logged it.
We were required to have two pilots since it was configured with 12 passenger seats - hell, with the infants, I've had 20 people onboard.
As for the logbook, I keep a digital copy, so I simply added a SE Copilot column. I recommend you look into going paperless yourself.

My logbook had a couple blank columns. I made one of them Single engine FO. I was FO than Captain on a PC12.

It's either going to be a Pilatus or a 208.schnitzel2k3 wrote:Well what is the plane?
That's actually what I'm planning to do. Having paper and electronic seems to have helped me make fewer mistakes, so I'm going to try keeping that going. Depends on how busy it gets, I might have to re-evaluate!Boreas wrote:I flew a van multi-crew and definitely logged it. [...] I recommend you look into going paperless yourself
That's what I was thinking of doing, just curious if it's something that throws up red flags for anyone (TC or any future job prospects). Probably going to end up doing just that though, and see what Transport has to say once I send everything over.teacher wrote:My logbook had a couple blank columns. Most log books have a few empty columns that you can use to put whatever you want in them. Try that.

As for log books I don't have paper anymore. Only an excel log book. Whenever I fill a page I print it, put it in a clear sleeve, seal the top with clear tape and it goes in my leather 3 ring zipper binder.
