What is the procedure used for a 500 hr inspection,is the mag run up to operating RPM? The noise I hear sounds very much like a bearing in a mag. Having checked every thing else I am back to the mags. When the 500HR was done they claimed the bearings were good. How would you know they are good if they were not tested at full RPM? Could the mystery noise starting at 2000RPM be caused by the grease failing in 17 yr old mags?

Have you tried poking around with one of these? (Don't get yourself killed doing it.)

If the 500 hour inspection was done according to the manual by a reputable shop, the mags were run up to operating RPM.

What kind of mags?
