Edmonton FIR VFR stream training

Post by gmcb10 »

Hello,
I looked through previous posts and wasn't able to find an answer to my question.

I was wondering if anyone knows where VFR in classroom training is located. Would it be located wherever you are posted (I.E fort mcmurray) or are students required to relocate to Edmonton for classroom training , and then relocate again for on the job training.

Also, does anyone know if YMM is in need of trainees?

Thank you

The training for all streams is at CZEG (Edmonton Area Control Center at the Edmonton International Airport), so unfortunately you would have to find accommodations in Edmonton or nearby for the duration of your initial training which would be approximately 6 months for VFR basic. After that you would be posted to whichever tower will be your first assignment and commence your on the job training phase there.

As far as I know the likely locations for first postings in the Edmonton region are Yellowknife, Whitehorse, or Fort Mac.

McMurray almost always needs trainees, and is a really interesting environment to learn in. There is pretty much always someone in training up here. Also, the in-classroom portion is closer to 4-5 months with around 6 months on-the-job training (in most cases).

Send me a PM if you want to ask anything else! I'd be happy to answer your questions.
