RANT: It's just a freighter..........
"It's just a freighter......."
ARGH!!!!
I'm so tired of hearing this. This statement makes me want to rip someone's face off. Why should it matter?
Please - someone show me the reg that says freighters are somehow less inferior to other planes and can be flown/maintained as such!!!

This airline section is, by far, the place where rants in all sizes and combo show the highest density. Or thickness...

So...if they're less inferior, does that mean they are also more superior?
If I'd known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself
Re: RANT: It's just a freighter..........
Freighters are the best! The passengers (read cargo) doesn't bitch about every little thing, doesn't plug the toilets or puke on the floor. As well, the crews are usually better to work with.
If you don't know,ASK!

You wouldn't understand boeingboy, you're just a freighter pilot
Re: RANT: It's just a freighter..........
I bought something online from a Canadian outfit (British, actually) whose warehouse is in Crowley, Lancashire. It went to Manchester, somehow, flew to Stanstead then direct Vancouver;,then on a truck to Garden Bay (look it up) IN THREE DAYS! I LOVE cargo planes! Thank you!

Re: RANT: It's just a freighter..........
I use to do a freighter run to Seattle. Pilots would come up to the FBO and buy 25 or 30 gallons of fuel for their piston pounder twins and the CSR would actually bake (nuke) some cookies and put on a fresh pot of coffee. We came along with our ugly old freighter (actually a very airworthy airplane with older exterior paint) and no coffee, no cookies, and we had to park in the rear.
Then they recognised we were buying 225 or 250 gallons of Jet A every day of the week so then they put on fresh coffee and nuked some frozen cookies. life was much better.
We still had to park in the rear of the ramp because that was the only place the trucks could get to.
One problem for freight dogs is we usually work the back side of the clock and at times accomodation was not always top drawer but safety was always paramount. Crash an airplane and you have 9 or so passengers pissed off but crash a freighter and you get 1500 or 2000 customers pissed at you.
It has always been my observation that a profitable airline is a safe airline. Fedex is profitable and their safety protocols make our SMS look like a bunch of backwood amatures. UPS and Purolator are the same.
The worst of the lot are the bank couriers but it is not so much the air carriers but the banks and the couriers. Usually the airline is not the contractor but the sub contractor to the courier company. It takes a strong owner to stand up to the demands and support the pilots. Most are so proud of the fact that they can do the job cheaper than anybody else, safety be dammed.

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

A lot of times when we are flying cargo only instead of pax, we are less likely to change altitude when it gets bumpy. Why?
Because....IT IS JUST A FREIGHTER.

Freight don't scream, be thankful.
Kowalski: Sir, we may be out of fuel.
Skipper: What makes you think that?
Kowalski: We've lost engine one, and engine two is no longer on fire.

North Shore, I am not going to have another argument with you about the destruction of Alderaan. As I've said many times before, it was a completely unjustified and excessive use of force.
