Northway(Ramp jobs)

Post by phillyfan »

Those of you on road trips may want to stear the car towards Pine dock and have a chat with Merlin Johnson. Don't call!!. Just show up. Take Hiway 8 north out of Winnipeg. He has close to a dozen airplanes on floats and wheels and a history of letting 200 hour pilots fly.

For the guys and gals that are going to do the trip - realize Northway is a bush company. During the summer season 12-14 hour days are not uncommon (as float flying is VFR and common sense dictates the hours). The lodge positions involve loading, unloading and washing planes, cutting grass, picking up garbage, building docks and decks, washing boats, floors, walls, general maintenance stuff. Now all of you 200 hour pilots are wondering why you should submit yourself to this but you have to wonder why anyone would give someone plane if they don't have a proven work ethic (at this and many companies this is the TEXTBOOK way of getting rid of slacker pilots that are not team players). At the end of a season or two, waiting for the new guys is excellent flying (up to seven different types), above average pay, and enough, not too much, down time (you do want hours don't you?).

That sounds like the case to me. I guess he wasn't one of the ones who got a flying job, huh?

If you don't know the connection between general work ethic and work ethic after you get to fly, then you better get a jacket with shoulder pads because the chip on your shoulder is about to become a gaping hole. I think most pilots will agree with me.

I just don't have time to argue with a bunch or strangers on the net. Everyone is entitled to their opionions, good or bad. That is what this site is all about. U want the goods? u gotta find out on ur own. NWA has some great points, but it has some weak ones aswell.
Glad u became a member. We all need to vent some time. :)

Important to note that applicants to this company are always expected to show up in Pine Dock not Arnes or St.Andrews. You will probably be welcomed at the other 2 but it won't get you a job or a meeting with the Operations Manager.
