LAST SURVIVING RECIPIENT OF THE VICTORIA CROSS

Post by gelbisch »

Sounds like one hell of a guy. I hope that we never forget what he and so many of his generation did for us, at such a young age. They were all true heroes. Godspeed, sir!

PM and GG pay respects to "Smoky"

Saw him; from a distance unfortunately, at the rememberance service at Holten in the Netherlands this spring. It's sad that so few of that generation are left. Happy trails Smokey.

So long Smokey. RIP Sir.

Smokey Smith was a member of the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada, a regiment based in Vancouver. At the APEC conference in 1997, they were prevented from being the honour guard on instructions from Gene the Cretin because they didn't look "Canadian enough." Armed forces members were flown in from Quebec and Ottawa to perform the function.

Ahh good ole' Jean.....worst PM ever...at least the seaforth highlanders know they likely won't be called to be honour guard at that jackasses funeral.

I wished I could have been to smokey's visitation in Ottawa earlier this week, I have a friend who went ot the one in YVR

Cheers
