Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
I had an interview with under 2000 hours. I do have DHC8 time though so that probably helped make up for less hours?
Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Interviewed with less than 2000 hours. You should realize by now that Time is not all they're looking at nowadays.

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Anyone know what's happening at Encore in the next couple of months with hiring? How many people in the pool? Ground schools currently running?
Thanks

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can let me know or if Dave P is out there, I have been in the pool since last year May, I have not heard back from WJE. Is there anyone in a similar situation. What can one expect at this point?
Cheers

I didn't have the lucky experience of being put in WJ's pool, but what I can suggest is to swim faster.
As stupid as it may sound, those swimming faster reached the other side of the pool way before expiry. Breath management also helps.
At least you will pass this first test ensuring you can stand being "told" you're disposable.
Looks like a zen experience, and reward looks good. Enjoy !

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
I'd be curious if those sitting in the pool for a long time might be the lower time guys and Encore perhaps wanted them to get another 6months - year under there belt before pulling them out?
Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
That was what I thought but it isn't the case. I was in touch with several guys during my tenure in the pool whom had less time and less relative experience for the upgrade matrix that were hired either instantly or within a week or so in the pool.
I honestly think it's a possibility where they want some people to spend a bit more time doing what they are doing to arrive on property more experienced, but it can't be said that's the case for the majority.
It's my guess that once you're invited to the interview the time isn't all that relevant any more.
Best of luck to everyone still in the pool!

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Last I've heard, is that depending on how few Westerners (from encore) are interested, there may be direct entry Captain positions opening up for the YYZ base in the near future.

Any idea on how long a new Encore pilot can expect to wait to get back to YYC from YYZ?

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Encore, and WestJet mainline, are moving some airframes from the west to the east where load factors are stronger. There was a recent internal email outlining why and what the future looks like for those already on property. In a nutshell, growth is forecast to be in the east. Future hiring is forecast to be in the east. People flowing up are primarily coming from the west. If someone were to hold out for a YYC Captain spot things are anticipated to level out near the end of the year and upgrades and base transfers could become available near the end of 2016.
All of this is semi-current info. Things could change if the western economy tanks completely etc. I have no idea if there are plans to move more aircraft from YYC to YYZ. That would change the balance of pilots and drag out the wait.

What takes place at a group interview? Have they been doing this for a while, or is this new?axm18 wrote:anyone going to the westjet group interview in YYZ march 15/16?

Pilots have also been doing a group portion of their interview since the fall I believe.
Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Anybody know if there is a way to apply to mainline when only an encore online portal is open?
Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
They aren't currently accepting resumes for WestJet on the 737. Last report was they had sufficient folks in the pool to get them through to the end of 2016 for the few that are hired off the street.dtpilot wrote:Anybody know if there is a way to apply to mainline when only an encore online portal is open?

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
I heard the last Ground school on the 737 had 100% flow through from Encore. The new norm, from here on in?

Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Not quite the new norm. I believe they ramped up the last two courses to 100% in order to bump up the years average to 75%. I think the intention is to run at 75% flow for the rest of 2016. So only 2 out of 8 will be off the street. They also mentioned they have enough guys in the pool to last the rest of the year so the application window for mainline will remain closed for now. If you're already in the pool for mainline, don't sweat it, just be patient...your time will come. Good luck to all!
Re: WestJet Mainline/Encore Hiring pool
Hey all, does anyone know how many (if any) off the street hires will be in the August Boeing ground schools? Are they still averaging 2 out of 8 or so or will they be 100% flow? Thanks.
