I heard a rumour that Encore is hiring direct entry captains? Any truth to it? Didn't see anything on the website but then again I may or may not be blind.

They are trying to fill yyz capt positions internally first... but they anticipate that many of those yyc peeps eligible for upgrade (matrix wise), won't want to move to yyz for upgrade (no paid moves).

No DEC's at Encore now. Wouldn't rule it out in the next 6 months though.
I doubt we will go with a Halifax base. We have a ton of people who commute from Vancouver and a good portion of our flying begins and ends from Vancouver. They won't open a Vancouver base and I don't see a Halifax base in the near future either.

We have a kind of hub going on in YHZ with flights to YYT, YDF, YQX, YQY, YOW and soon KBOS. We have a number of commuters from YHZ who are probably home more than guys living and based in YYZ, however not sure if the company would want make a permanent move like creating a new base. I know a lot of guys would like to see a YVR base, but according to a fairly reliable source, frankly *IF* another base were created, it would be created in YHZ as it is more difficult to get crews to/from YHZ than YVR.
There may be a need for DECs. A lot of it is being pegged on the three tails that moved to YYZ recently, but I think with the growth happening in YYZ DECs would be likely required at some point regardless...just not enough FOs who have the time required to upgrade. I would suspect they might interview a few guys as DECs just in case they need them, but they are deciding on a month by month basis, depending on who bids to go to YYZ. I also hear a number of guys who have flowed to WestJet from Encore are considering returning to Encore as their YOS at WestJet continue to accrue once they come back.

Interesting, so now you can go back and make Encore captain pay, and then slot over to WJ FO after like 3 or 4 years and get the equivalent YOS FO pay on the 37? According to the WJ pilot agreement, you can go back into a vacant position and then you are type restricted for 2 years.
