Entry Level Float Pilot

It was never my intent to say anything negative about the actual position of working as a dock hand. Like many have stated, it can be an excellent entry level position, and an opportunity to demonstrate who you are and what your work ethic is when you have no real previous working experience to prove it. My main point was what they were offering to pay such an individual. I would imagine this would be a fairly physically demanding job, with all the various tasks that would be asked of you. So is it fair the person working down at the local Tim Hortons serving coffee will get minimum wage (or more), while this individual working hard at their job doesn't deserve even that much?

This isn't an entry level pilot job, it's a dock job as the poster explicitly says. There is no carrot leading to a pilot job as he also explicitly says, an eventual flying position is nothing more than a possibility after an indeterminate period of time. It is not hired to work the ramp/dock waiting your eventual turn for a seat - which by itself is risky enough for a new pilot.

When I joined the Air Force they asked if I'd be interested in being a Navigator first with the potential to cross-train later. No thanks.

Lots of people saying this is fine, but neglecting the fact pointed out by the OP that it is way below minimum wage, and therefore illegal.

Why, exactly, is it ok to use pilots as slave labour?

There's lots of righteous indignation here when pilots accept underpaid positions, or pay to fly, but you're all happy with pilots being paid below minimum wage?!

If everyone in 703 got paid for each hour worked, there would be no 703. I completely disagree with this, it's just the unfortunate truth.

This just sucks!!!! Why are we even debating this topic, we are pilots! The job posting should not be on Avcanada but on general labour/ janitor job sites.
The owner needs not one but 2 staff on 8 hour schedule with 2 days off and $20 an hour!
Sad times !!!
