Ct'd from the ATC Course

Post by cinarm »

Hi there,,,,,,,I am looking for general information. Is it possible after being ct'd from the ATC course that you can be offered a re-course in the future?

I have only seen this happen if after being CT'd the person was employed within the company in the school or ATOS. The people I am aware of that were offered another course (3-5 years later I think) were all unsuccessful on their subsequent try as well. This was all IFR.

Yes. I know of at least 8 that have got offered either a new course or a new unit. Now that I think of it, I don't think I know anyone that's been CTd and been thrown to the street. I know ab initios that are on their third try. It's a pretty lively conversation where I work; some people really don't like it.

This is YYZ FIR.

We had someone CT'd within the first 2 months of Generic IFR and they were given an OTS position. We have been briefed in how the training culture at NAVCANADA is 'changing' from the old ways of trainees are scum to friendlier environment which may include second chances if they see value in that. If you make it to OJT the company has invested a great deal of money in you so it makes sense to try to retain that investment somehow. Have you done an exit interview yet? That is where all your future options will be discussed.

I think it's Operational Training Support. They operate the simulators in the school.

OTS - Operational training specialist. Formerly TSS - Training service specialist. In yyz most have been ct'd from 1-4 times. And it's a great job which some have been able to get licenses from.

What type of advise would you give someone who has been ct'd to insure that they have every opportunity for the future to possibly get re-coursed?

Be liked, be positive, and don't fail out because you didn't try. I was CT'd from YYZ Terminal, along with most of my class, and contrary to what the above poster said, we were not offered anything. However, as we were well liked and had a very good relationship with the Manager of Training, we were put in contact (a year later) with the MOT of other regions and were then offered FSS positions. Unfortunately, different regions, different specialties, different instructors, it all factors in to your success. A lot of people are cut from the program, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes not, but the important thing is to realize its a big company with a lot of opportunities. Don't let yourself stress about being CT'd because there is indeed life after death.
