"Hello,

Thank you for submitting your application to the Pilot posting at Air Canada.

The Pilot selection process is extremely competitive and has resulted in over 1000 applications received from highly qualified pilot applicants. We have notified those that we expect to interview in the next 12 months. Your resume will remain in our system and we may be in touch with you in the future. However, we encourage you to consider applying to one of our Air Canada Express partners: Jazz Aviation LP, Air Georgian, Sky Regional Airlines, or Exploits Valley Air Services, as we expect to continue hiring from these companies as well.

Sincerely, "

I am a 737-800 fo with about 4500 tt with 1000 MPIC.

Same here, and also encouraged to go through their meat grinder regionals as It may still get me a chance at " the big show."

Good luck to everyone that got the good letter though, movement benefits us all.

Think I'll have to pass, thanks for the offer though.

For me no degree, I don't speak French and I'm not part of a visible minority. To be honest I wasn't at all expecting to get looked at.

Sorry. I can see how that may have come off badly but it wasn't my intent. I was just wondering if it actually meant anything or if it was just a polite way of saying we might look at you again in the future.

It looks like a University degree is the ticket to be hired OTS, based on what I am seeing anyways.

FL020 wrote: 15000 hours, 2 degrees? And you've opted to head over to ac to make 54, 57,59 and 61k in the next 4 years???!
Just not to misinform those reading your post:

1. Your numbers a wrong. New hires now can expect an hourly wage of about 57, 63, 74 and 84$/hr once cost of living increase is factored in. Note: Couple guys on my ground school a few years ago made over 80k in first year and close to 100k in their second year... Etc. (Once you add overtime, perdiems, sim, occasional bonuses/profit sharing.. It adds up fast). Not to mention EMJ captain YYZ is now just under year 4 seniority and pays over 140k... And getting more junior every bid!

2. If one looks forward at the total amount of years he/she has left to fly before retirement, it's quite obvious the first four years at AC will easily be offset by much higher paying years after that, a great quality of life, benefits and most importantly many planes/operations to chose from depending on personal preference/lifestyle choices (emj, 320, 737, C series, 767, 330, 787, 777).

3. If not AC, then what other piloting job in Canada would you recommend for this pilot?

Personal anecdote... A colleague on my ground school had 14000 hours when he got into to AC and another was 737 captain, both around 35 years old... With that many hours/experience, I asked them both if they were "sure about making the move with that kind of experience": they both answered: it's a no brainer. And after a few years working here, neither regret their decisions and I see why as it is indeed a great job. (Of course I understand there are exceptions and every pilot has different personal/family circumstances to consider)

Hope this informations helps others with the dilemma and helps to make a clearer decision...
Respectfully,
Ltd

With regard to all above posts...seem like AC is hiring only 1% from OTS; while the other 80% comes from jazz and the remaining 19% from express carriers. I guess unless you have a Univ degree, bilingual , JET PIC TIME, total time above 3k and maybe an internal ref only then expect a call/stand a chance

All the best to all

We're running through that PML at a lightning pace.........some new hires on the mid-April course had only been with Jazz a few years.

Curious to see how many senior pilots actually take a spot when their deferral time ends. The fact that we're running a fair number of EMJ courses right now might account for them. My bet is when the PML is exhausted, the OTS hiring will begin in earnest. Remember, serious retirements don't even show up until bid 16-03 (16-02 v.2) in June......that's when the real hiring will begin. Speculating a bit, but I believe anyone with a "hang tough" letter will likely see an interview within a year from today.

Not trying to blow smoke....it's just the way it is. We have an expanding fleet to man, and the old boys are starting to leave.

DP.
