Any legitimate Pilot bars left?

Post by NorOntair »

Just curious...

I remember one in CYQT in the old Canadian Flight Centre. There is a Mayday Malone's just north of CYTZ (which oddly enough doesn't count because it is a baseball themed bar). Wheat Sheaf also north of CYTZ i'm told is the official watering hole of Island Air and Porter pilots.

I remember ones in CYRL CYMJ CYCP. But that's it.

CYXY White Horse had one across from the airport.

I think Brandon MB had one back in the day as well.

I can vouch for Wheat Sheaf being the "non official" Porter and the "official" Island Air bar... I wouldn't go as far as saying it IS a pilot bar though. More of a generic pub.

There's a plane!

Where there's a plane there's a pilot, where there's a pilot there's a bar, where there's a bar I can get a drink!

Jetz in YYC used to be the place to be, but with the implosion of aviation out there nobody has any money left to drink anymore...

I'm fairly sure the Flying Beaver at YVR South Side would qualify as a pilot bar.

YXY Whitehorse (one word) was or is the Airport Chalet. A lot of "There I was at 10,000 ft." told there.

No more 'there I was at 10,000ft' in the Airport Chalet. Now the pilots are still at the office writing 'there I was at...' in their SMS report. I'm sure glad I started this caper a few years back.

You wouldn't be pretending to be a pilot just so you can drink there?

The Storehouse at Frobisher INN. Don't forget to do a shot every time someone tries to sell you arctic fox mittens, soapstone carvings, lemming earrings, a microwave, a painting, moccasins, or baby seal slippers.

The Jet Lag Club, Narita, Japan.

Bonus points, 'cause they let my 7 year old wander around and look at all of the pictures and memorabilia while a friend and I drank!

F Street Station in Anchorage is the coolest pilot bar I've ever been in, hands down! If I had to guess I'd say 90% of the dudes in there were pilots, and 95% of the chicks were there for that reason!! 8)

I was going to say Jetz but I don't think many pilots go there anymore. I think the old Flight Deck or Canadian Brew House as it is now in Calgary qualifies. YVR, the good old trusty Beaver. YYJ, Mary's.

Cockpit Lounge in Landstuhl is really excellent. The bar and hotel it's in are mostly full of pilots. The owner is Canadian.

Arizona's beside the landing strip but I haven't been there in years. Lately I'm more of an all day breakfast kinda guy followed by a local Park. Having wee ones changes ones priorities :smt040

How much I took those days for granted. I miss them so much now.

Be careful what you wish for, I guess.
