Failing PR

Post by av8ts »

Whomever is in charge of social media at AC is failing horribly at their job. Facebook and Twitter are full of stories of AC raising prices for people trying to get out of Fort Mc and Edmonton to other places in Canada while praising WJ for coming to people's rescue and flying them for free. These stories are spreading like (pardon the pun) wildfire

Pulled from the Air Canada website;

Update 4: Fort McMurray Wildfires

May 7, 2016

Evacuation charters:
As of today, Air Canada and Jazz will have operated 20 charter flights, evacuating more than 1,400 people to Edmonton and Calgary, with more flights tomorrow.

More seats departing Alberta:
Air Canada continues to add additional capacity from Edmonton across Canada to get people home from Northern Alberta and to date including evacuation charters, we have added more than 3,600 seats. We continue to actively manage this and add additional capacity daily as required.

Assisting to deliver medical supplies:
We are working with Global Medic to deliver medical and other supplies to Alberta.

Waiving pet, hunting equipment, bag fees:
We are waiving pet carriage fees as well as handling fees for weapons/hunting equipment, surf equipment and bikes for passengers who are in the process of evacuating from affected areas.

Baggage fees are waived for passengers travelling to or from affected areas. Customers who have checked-in online, via their mobile device or via a kiosk at the airport should submit a request for refund of baggage fees via Customer Relations once their travel is complete.

For customers originally booked to fly to/from Fort McMurray, Fort St. John, Edmonton, Calgary
A flexible rebooking policy remains in place to enable passengers to change their flights without charge, space permitting for flights departing or arriving affected areas. Customers are requested to check the status of their flights on aircanada.com.

Lowest fares remain available:
Contrary to allegations in social media, fares were not raised in response to this devastating situation. In some cases, customers booking last minute on May 3 and 4 on flights from Fort McMurray and Edmonton have paid premium fares. This was a result of Air Canada’s computerized revenue management system, which automatically manages fares. Regrettably, we were unable to intervene in advance to manually adjust fares and in those instances we’re contacting customers who paid a premium to adjust the fare to the normally available, lowest advance fare and refund the difference. Steps have been taken to manually manage fares on aircanada.com to ensure the lowest advance fares remain available for all passengers travelling as a result of the wildfires.

Red Cross aid
We are thinking of the people in Fort McMurray, which includes our own employees and employees of our Air Canada Express partner Jazz who live in this community. The Air Canada Foundation has made a $50,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to assist with relief efforts.

All Fort McMurray scheduled flights remain cancelled due to airport operating restrictions as a result of the wildfires. We remain ready to operate flights into Fort McMurray as soon as scheduled flights are able to resume.

Updates will be continue to be provided on aircanada.com.

BTW:

West Jet was contracted by Suncor as were the other airlines(Jazz, Air Canada, North Cariboo, Canadian North, etc.). Suncor Aviation OCC coordinated the airlift for Firebag.

Oh I know all of that, but a lot of people think Wj did all the flights and did them for free and AC screwed everyone. Social media is a very powerful tool.

WestJet's disgustingly devious social media campaign only adds to the AC incompetence narrative. New school schooling the old school I suppose.

It sure is. Remember before the election all the pro-Trudeau/ anti-Harper gibberish on Facebook? Now we are stuck with Trust Fund Boy or Zoolander or whatever you want to call him.

"Or whatever you want to call him"

How about "Prime Minister"?

Your insults belie the typical self aggrandising, impertinent attitude of your neo-conservative heroes.

Sigh....... WJ vs AC, Trudeau/ Notely vs the previous administration, Neo-Con vs the rest...... It wasn't this silly back in the 60's and 70's. There were disasters then as well. I know cause I was around.

You ever watch any 1970's tv news. Think will ferrel's anchorman. The rise of the internet just allows a decentralized info source. Politicians and businesses dislike it as they can't control the "Message" it also allows people who would otherwise be squelched to voice their opinion.

...and Harper was just a mail room boy after being a University dropout.

Harper attended Northlea Public School and, later, John G. Althouse Middle School and Richview Collegiate Institute, both in Central Etobicoke. He graduated in 1978, and was a member of Richview Collegiate's team on Reach for the Top, a television quiz show for Canadian high school students.[16] Harper enrolled at the University of Toronto but dropped out after two months.[17] He then moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where he found work in the mail room at Imperial Oil

Isn't bragging about charity wrong?

Isn't bragging about charity, that isn't actually charity, because you profited, much worse?

I'm with AC. Eventually this kind of behavior by WJ will end badly for them.

If I was in charge at AC I would be silent too. I wouldn't want the eventual fallout to spread to me

WJ is playing with fire if they believe they can keep manipulating the media. It is quite evident they have lost their "golden boy" status.

Just completing it for you ... somehow it got truncated.

Later, he advanced to work on the company's computer systems. He took up post-secondary studies again at the University of Calgary, where he completed a bachelor's degree in economics in 1985. He later returned there to earn a master's degree in economics, completed in 1991.[18] Harper has kept strong links to the University of Calgary. Harper is the first prime minister since Joe Clark without a law degree

Having "Prime Minister of Canada" on your resume elevates it a tad, and what appeared before it doesn't really matter anymore no matter who you are.

These things should be done simply because people need help.
For ANYONE to attempt to turn this into some sort of marketing coup is just plain wrong.

Real charity is doing something and not expecting anything in return.

If a company claims charity and goodwill then needs to show it off to the world, it is not true charity, but a PR stunt....nothing more.

The worst part about this is was the fact some loser posted a comparison of fares on FB between WS and AC. AC was $4000 versus WS at $600. But it was a J fare. His picture showed ACs J fare... And the stupid public ate it up like candy.
