On the heels of the life vest announcement, a Beaver has crashed and sank in Kitkatla near Prince Rupert. Fortunately all OK. Operator Inland Air.

In chatting with the pilot yesterday, it sounded like a terrifying ordeal. Glad he and all of his pax made it out safely!

C-FJOM, a de Havilland DHC-2 MK. I Beaver aircraft operated by Inland Air Charters, was landing
at a water aerodrome in Kitkatla, BC (CAP7) from Prince Rupert/Seal Cove, BC (CZSW) when the
aircraft touched down hard, bounced and landed hard again. In the process, the left wing made
contact with the water. The aircraft settled in the water partially nosed over. There were 7 people
on board and all managed to egress as the aircraft sank. None of the occupants were wearing a
personal floatation device during the flight and none escaped with the available life vests. All 7
persons were rescued by local boaters and three were taken by medevac services to the hospital
with suspected minor injuries.

Two Beavers flying up to the destination. The first one lands into the wind which requires more taxi time and lands safely. The second one decides to save a little bit of time and land in the crosswind with whitecaps. He crashes.

A good example for all pilots to study concerning what can happen based on real world decision-making when a good alternative option is available compared to the most convenient option.
