Would anyone be kind enough to provide some valuable information on the Sim Evaluation? Got one coming up!

Tips and tricks? layout? what can one expect?

Take a look through there to start.

No tips or tricks...just fly the damn thing. You pick the seat you want to fly from. They give you a short briefing and a briefing sheet with profiles and standard calls. You have 45 minutes to get familiar with them. The approach plates are from Jepp so having some familiarity with them would help. Google Jepp plate guide or something like that. There is a decent guide online. It is a pretty standard IFR ride. At some point, you will have an engine failure, leading to a single engine ILS.

Use the standard briefings you use at your present company for TO, hold and the approach.

Relax and take your time. They really want to see how you interact as a crew. The flying is important of course, but make sure you use the guy beside you.

Do you think they care which seat you pick? Judge you differently perhaps. If you're cozy in the left but will flying in the right for the next few years.

Over thinking it...just pick a seat you are comfortable with. The rate we are hiring you might be surprised how short the wait in the right seat could be.

Looks like all SIM EVALS will now be taking place in YUL, YYZ and YYC on fixed base sims only. Just had a chat with an ACP today in YVR and said this is the permanent new format.

dont try to "save" a bad approach where your high and hot.... call for the missed and they will give you another chance no problem... they want to see you making good, safe decisions... not demonstrating your . yeager bush pilots amazingballz skills...

use your pilot monitoring... he/she is a resource... those that try to do it all themselves are again showing bad habits...


If you come out of the sim thinking you aced it and fixed all the problems yourself... enjoy your PFO.... If you go in there, be humble.... work as a crew with your PM... ask for help when the workload gets high... and maintain a positive attitude in the crunchtime moments you will do fine.

Hint.... its not just a sim eval.....

just like to say that all the above is good advice. All I will add is : turn up keen to do well, use your "pilot not flying " and DO NOT assume you need to demonstrate superior flying skills, the most important think is to keep the flight safe and TAKE YOUR TIME , that way you will show what you can do. GOOD LUCK ! ( its a great place to work !!! )

Ask Jazz, usually information such as location where one needs to be is provided. Are you sure you have an Eval ?

Evaluation, yep, pretty sure...just wondering what Sim they're using in Calgary.

YYC sim is Mount Royals on their main campus. Unless something changed.

Not 100%, but I think it's set up as a King Air 200? Friend did a sim there last year I think that's what he said. But again.. not %100.

No in YYC it's on Mount Royal's Alsim which doesn't even simulate any specific aircraft. Looks almost like a G1000 setup with torque read out in %. It's just a generic turbine aircraft it seems. Very straightforward.

Seneca is a fixed King Air 200 sim.

Anyone have an idea what a/c is used for the YUL sim eval? It's in Dorval at the Centre quebecois de formation aeronautique.

I'll try to explain it. Basically it isn't one single "type" of aircraft. The flight schools website states it can be configured as either a 737,Q400,Crj. This is misleading though, I've talked to friends (who have had CYUL sims with jazz) and personality been to this flight school and seen the Sim. And it's a combination of all three types. The power levers are CRJ or Q400 i cant remember. The overhead panel is 737. The autopilot/glareshield is Q400. The flaps are CRJ but the screen indicates like a Q400. The instruments are on screens like the CRJ and have moving tape airspeed indicators and alt indicators.

Oh and I forgot to mention it's a turbine. But that doesn't matter because the person next to you sets all the levers for you. You just control the thrust so you don't have to worry about things like correct NP settings or RPM settings.

Long story short don't worry about it. If you've never used a moving tape airspeed or altimeter maybe watch some videos on that just to get a feel for what it looks like. But you really won't be able to prepare much for the cockpit layout.

The pilot next to you also sets the radios and the auto pilot so you really done need to worry about that either.

Anyways best of luck hopefully this helps.

What type of plane it is really shouldn't matter if you have the skills they want. It's not hard. Read the paper they give you, speeds and thrust settings and fly it like you know how to fly. It has two engines, wings and a yoke.
