NewLeaf Travel Begins Operations

So after all the hype and build up, NewLeaf finally started operations on July 25th with their first flight. Curious to see if there have been any further updates or observations from people since flights began. Are flights operating on time? Do they appear full? Has anyone actually flown on them? Given the fact that it can be cheaper to fly to Europe than it is to fly between Toronto and Vancouver I think that there is definitely an opportunity in the marketplace for an ULCC start-up. Is NewLeaf the one with the finances, strategy and planning to pull it off? That I'm not so sure about but it will be interesting to see...

HAMILTON, Ont. — After a five-and-a-half month delay, NewLeaf Travel Co. Inc. launched its first flights Monday amidst an ongoing court battle that still has the potential to foil the latest addition to Canada’s airspace.

The travel company held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Hamilton International Airport to inaugurate its first flight, which took off around 10 a.m. ET for Winnipeg despite a morning of severe thunderstorms. Chief commercial officer Dean Dacko said all but two seats on the 156-seat aircraft were sold and other routes this week are “well exceeding” sales expectations...

JetsGo's load factors were relatively high on their last day. Seat sales don't mean stuff-all.

What will be interesting is what revenue they'll be seeing from those 'ancillary' fees. That'll be the true test. Will the flying public readily adopt a Ryanair/EasyJet/Allegiant model?
