All this talk of expansion is likely to backfire... The industry is going to experience a hick-up or two if the price of oil continues to soar. The average traveller is going to feel the squeeze of fewer expendable dollars. I am sure everyone is feeling the pinch at the pumps... your gas bill is up 40% over what you were paying only a couple of years ago. Home heating, cost of utilities... all going up. I don't know about any of you but I sure have not seen my pay go up!

11 new a/c are just that...new. all but 2 200's that are leased will be gone by Nov of this year. etops and route expansion will accomodate these along with 30% growth in charter this winter and a possible code share with one world will all help fill these new 600's.tonysoprano wrote:Fltlevel. Not stirring any pot dude. I may be just a little misinformed about what you guys fly, I appoligize, but I stand by the rest of my thread. You have proved my point about retirements. You think 10% are over 50. That's not a big number and 50 something is not retirement. Maybe two will retire in 2006? Anyway, I think you get my point. As for the big expansion in equipment, are the 11 machines arriving not replacing the -200's that are leaving? If that's the case, that's not expansion. Listen, I don't care who dose the hiring. I like to see all those guys on the "street" get the jobs they want. Just because I don't work for Clive doesn't mean I'm against expansion at WJ. The bigger the better I say. Bring it on. So put away your paranoya and let's have a normal discussion.

Nice to get new machines, but you still haven't answered the all important question. In terms of numbers, are these new planes not replacing the old ones? Let me make it easier for you. Is the number of airplanes you have after you get the new ones the same as when the olds ones are gone? If this number is the same, you have no expansion. If this number is greater, you have ...Right? Great to hear you wil have ETOPS and 30% growth. The question is, are you going to hire soon? How many? Air Canada came out with sound numbers and schedule as far as hiring is concerned.

I know what you're saying, but we also got 15 airplanes this year, as we were retiring the -200's. With the 11 confirmed deliveries in '06, it will end up with 26 additional airframes, minus the 18 -200's, 3 of which were spares.
In addition to that, utilization on the NG's is higher, plus they are attempting to increase the utilization even futher than before.
Hopefully that explains it.

I thought it was clear... the 200's are all gone but two until March...the 11 next year will be increase in hulls to 66 give or take one or two. look for about 130 to 150 new hires.tonysoprano wrote:Nice to get new machines, but you still haven't answered the all important question.
