http://www.mississauga.com/news-story/6 ... ssissauga/Danville Park will be home to a plane-viewing platform to spot airplanes flying in and out of Toronto Pearson International Airport.
In partnership with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), the City of Mississauga is constructing the viewing platform at the highest point in the city, the Danville Park pinnacle. Located north of Highway 401, off Kennedy Road, the pinnacle is 25 metres above the park area.

What a waste of time and money to be that far from the airport. People will still use the Wendy's for 23, the little spot under the approach lights on dixie Rd for 05.
There is no reason that they couldn't put a controlled facility at the corner of Derry and airport Rd. All those people are in that area watching anyways, uncontrolled, why not have a controlled area there?
In case people are worried about security, have a look at the major airports in the USA and what they do....DFW probably being the best one I've seen so far.

"The GTAA is providing $300,000 in funding to the City of Mississauga for the construction of the platform."
300K?....
Can they maybe provide only 100k and spend the rest on maintaining OR replacing the escalators that are constantly breaking down at both terminals??

Exactly! That massive flower shaped something or other for flight statuses in T1 is also pretty questionable...I WAS Birddog wrote: 300K?....Can they maybe provide only 100k and spend the rest on maintaining OR replacing the escalators that are constantly breaking down at both terminals??
Re: Airplane viewing platform to be built for CYYZ
I was thinking the same thing but its pretty self evident Howard Eng and Scott Collier couldn't care less whether the escalators work or not. I've noticed that even when they are working they like to shut them off every once in a while so we get our exercise going to customs.I WAS Birddog wrote:"The GTAA is providing $300,000 in funding to the City of Mississauga for the construction of the platform."

A photo op opening the new platform to view little specs of planes in the distance is obviously a much better way of spending other people's money.
Re: Airplane viewing platform to be built for CYYZ
How can they justify taking money from people who use the airport to pay for a viewing platform for people who don't.
Re: Airplane viewing platform to be built for CYYZ
Seems like the extra money they allocated for the platform was taken away from the electricity budget. Anyone know what was going on last Friday in the evening? Taxi lights out, a small fire was burning and it was a slow taxi in....

It's my understanding that this is on high ground. Maybe they bought the land to put the park on before someone decided to install a wind turbine farm there...?fish4life wrote:How can they justify taking money from people who use the airport to pay for a viewing platform for people who don't.
