Ishihara test plates / D15 Farnsworth during hiring process?

Hi all,

When passing a medical test by say, Jazz, during the hiring process, do they allow non-conventionnal tests for color blind people?

I mean, I can pass the D15 Farnsworth test easy, but can't pass the Ishihara test plates (at least I didn't 10 years ago). TC now says to get your unrestricted CAT 1 you need to pass either Ishihara, D15 or Lantern.

I am currently waiting for my CAT 1 before throwing 60k on my training, I would be kind of pissed if Jazz says no in about 5 years when I get the hours to apply.

For your CAT1, you'll do the D15 once, and then at each subsequent renewal your CAME will write something to the effect of "Farnsworth D15 on file" on the medical form.

Now, assuming Transport doesn't suddenly decide to screw with everyone who has been using alternate methods of compliance for vision - I doubt there would be any issues with a future airline interview/application process. Just let them know that you have the D15 results on file, and keep a copy for yourself that you can give to them. If they take issue with it, punt it up the chain to someone with half a brain, that is beyond the HR department.

For what it's worth, the Jazz 'medical' is a simple urine test. If you hold a Cat1 medical, you are fine. I believe the urine test is for drugs, but I am not really sure. I wasn't concerned about the results so I didn't ask what they were actually testing

The jazz test is indeed a drug screening. If you want to progress to AC, you'll have to pass their own in house medical. It is indeed picky and prickly

Jazz's medical is a drug test. That's it. Do you hold a Cat 1 medical? You're good to go. All you are required to do is be able to hold a Cat 1 medical as per TC's regulations. That's it.
