Ohhh it's an Assesment session, I thought you were saying there was more testing for those of us who's already gone through the process.kevenv wrote:I'm not sure why an assessment date on their website would change anything on your page...Armyguy25 wrote:Where on Take Charge does it say it? Woohoo! I woke up to a green light on my take charge page!
I was streamed for flight service specialist only, which is kind of disappointing since I was really hoping for VFR. Nevertheless, I plan on enthusiastically accepting any course offers that I (hopefully) receive. Armyman and any others who have been going through the process in moncton, I hope you all see green today as well!

Also got the green light, streamed IFR. Was hoping for VFR but I'm happy nonetheless! Congrats to you too TGSky!

You may still end up VFR. I was streamed IFR and that was my preference but I got a VFR course offer and thats where I ended up (and am now quite happy about it!). So you never know.ScGhost0 wrote:Also got the green light, streamed IFR. Was hoping for VFR but I'm happy nonetheless! Congrats to you too TGSky!

Hey guys,
I am new to this site. Just found it actually. I see people are looking to see if anyone had been accepted. I got the green light for IFR on the 14th. Getting pretty excited. Gonna be a big change.

From what I understand, offers for Moncton training will come out around the end of the year. VFR should start in February/March and IFR in April. So, I am guessing offers for VFR would be first and then offers for IFR training. Just wondering, since I qualified for IFR stream and if NAV Canada calls me for VFR, should I hold out for IFR? IFR is where I want to be, I think. Looking for opinions.

Good info on the timing. I'm in the FSS pool myself and it seems they're running national FSS courses out of Moncton all through the spring. As for your second note, if you are offered VFR and decide to hold out, it would definitely be a gamble, but ultimately its your choice! Maybe others who've been through the process could help out more with that question.Freakflyer wrote:From what I understand, offers for Moncton training will come out around the end of the year. I wouldn't make the assumption VFR course offers will go out first just because it's the first course. When I was through school the VFR course was a few weeks earlier starting than IFR, so I made the same assumption. I also knew a guy who had gotten an IFR offer a couple weeks before so I assumed the VFR class was already filled and it was IFR or nothing for me (I was also streamed IFR). However I then got my call and it was a VFR offer, so it didn't work out how I had thought it would based on start date.Freakflyer wrote:From what I understand, offers for Moncton training will come out around the end of the year. My educated guess is that generally IFR courses are filled first since that's the highest ranked stream (and those who are in IFR stream can be offered any course). Then on down the list. But again, this isn't any sort of hard and fast rule, I'm sure it is also situation specific for Nav how they do things.
Personally if you want to be an air traffic controller I would not turn down an offer (once again on the assumption that if you were ranked highly enough in thr candidate pool you would likely be offered IFR). Plus VFR is great, I was in the same boat as you of wanting IFR but I'm now very happy how it worked out.

It sounds like the general consensus is to not turn down any offer from NAV Canada. What is the feeling about turning NAV Canada down this round due to financial reasons? I am going to have to move and have a family to consider plus a house to sell. Do you know if NAV Canada has any resources for assisting with this (does not mean monetary)? I am really excited to likely being offered training, as is my family and 6 months could make a huge difference. We just have huge hurdles to overcome to make this happen. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?
I'm sure there would be no hard feelings if you had to turn down a training offer due to financial reasons. They did just do another Assesment test a few weeks back so I imagine there will be more courses coming up next year. I know that Nav Canada has relocation assistance for existing employees (in some cases), but I would be surprised if they extended them to trainees considering the course drop-off rate is fairly high.

I don't expect they would have financial assistance, but would they have other resources to help find people accommodations/housing, etc.?TGSky wrote:I'm sure there would be no hard feelings if you had to turn down a training offer due to financial reasons. I asked a question about relocation for trainees in the assessment session and the answer was that there was not a "full" relocation package available as for licensed controllers, but assistance is definitely available.

Just found out today that all the FSS courses planned for the near future in Moncton have been filled . Guess I'm going to have to start looking at other options. Just wanted to post and say thanks one last time to everyone who has provided great advice and conversation throughout the process. Good luck to all.
Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?
How did you find that out?
Re: Has anyone in Moncton FIR received a call for an in-person interview?
I sent an email to Joanne at atscareers@navcanada.ca. Got a reply this evening letting me know that the courses had been loaded.

Just wondering if anyone has received an offer for training in the Moncton FIR for IFR/VFR.
