Hi Folks
I just applied earlier in the week via the Nav Canada website and passed the initial online test and I'm now prepared for the long haul
I am most interested in the FSS roles and in particular the Flight Information Specialist(FIC) position, I guess the main reason being that as well as being interested in aviation I am also a bit of a weather geek
So judging by the description on the website there are 8 possible FIC centre locations that I could be posted to? Or are you only considered for centre's in your region/province? I'm based in YYZ, so in this case London or North Bay?
I'm assuming I wouldn't be considered for Quebec City as I don't speak French?
Thanks

Re: Just applied
Congrats and good luck. Usually your are recruited and placed within the FIR you applied to but there are cases where you could be sent elsewhere. You indeed need to speak french to work at Quebec FIC.murdo74 wrote:Hi Folks

Thanks for the info Braun, appreciated!
I don't mind being posted outside of Ontario to be honest, not sure about Yellowknife from a lifestyle and isolation point of view but if I was in a position where I had got that far to be offered a job, I wouldn't be complaining!

Re: Just applied
I've never been, but I know folk who have, and they say Yellowknife is a fantastic place to live.
To follow what Braun said, you typically we be placed within the FIR you interview and train in, but it's not too uncommon to be sent to another FIR if staffing levels require it.
If you're happy to be posted anywhere within the country, make sure recruitment know that, it will be in your favour. Good luck with the application.

Re: Just applied
If I'm not mistaken, Moncton is training FSS people for national positions as opposed to just in the FIR.
Re: Just applied
You are not mistaken. While VFR and IFR training is typically done in the FIR for the FIR, I know the last course in Moncton anyway did send all 3 who made it through outside of the region and that it is considered a national course now.kevenv wrote:If I'm not mistaken, Moncton is training FSS people for national positions as opposed to just in the FIR.

Before you work in FIC, you will have to complete a basic FSS course then there will be an additional training (PBS) after, but once again, it depends on the schedule of the training, some might get into FIC right away, some might has to complete FSS then wait for the PBS course is offer, anyhow, best luck to you!
