"Entry Level Pilot Position"

Post by 7ECA »

Just posted in the job ads, by Sea to Sky Aviation.

My favourite part by far, has to be the remuneration section.

Your pay, is flight hours. After six months, you may get a full time job.

WTF?

From my knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, it isn't. Although maybe there is some loophole being exploited here?

From what I remember, you have to pay any employee in a Federally regulated industry at minimum the Provincial minimum wage.

They modified the ad, the "Flight Hours" as renumeration could have been a typo.

Now says "Per flight hour". Seems normal after all.

Too cheap to hire professional pilots, what a sleaze bag company.

http://www.seatoskyair.ca

Funny they don't mention that they only hire the most desperate and pathetic pilots on their website

"We really appreciate [the pilot] share his knowledge of British Columbia. We felt his love of his country.
FAMILY FROM FRANCE"

Hope they shared some food with him, wonder if that family from France knew that not one penny of their ticket went to that pilot.

Isn't a captain at Air Canada still paid by the flight hour? It depends on what the hourly rate actually is and what the typical hours or guarantees are as to whether it's a rip off. I doubt it's any worse than most entry level jobs and it beats the snot out of working dock or ramp up north with only hopes of a flying position.

I would tend to agree. As long as they aren't paying minimum wage (or close to it) per flight hour AND expecting you do all that cleaning and office work listed, then it would beat the heck out of the ramp/dock for the summer.

All the people actually openly complaining need to take a step off their soak box and relax.

It's a low time job, it pays money, likely no bond, and it gets PIC time. What more can a 250hr pilot want?

I worked for a company that operates little 152s, paid 25 cents a photo and 100 a week for a seasonal spot. I made 500 a week cash and got some great experience and moved on.

Very thankful for that first job. It taught me to appreciate everything down the line.

Shaking head.

S.

The issue stemmed from the fact it initially posted renumeration as "Flight hours". Insinuating that hours alone was the payment. Obviously that isn't actually the case and looks like a good first job for someone!

Just because the ad was changed, doesn't change anything in my mind.

This operator will likely continue with whatever ridiculous scheme they've dreamt up for pay, yes, per flight hour - as in, we are giving you each flight hour...

Is this factual, or your opinion?

The only thing I would be curious about is if they expected 4-6 max duty days and there was an hour or 2 of flying each day, at probably $12-15/hr? Is a pilot expected to stick around for up to 84hrs/week to make the awesome sum of $180/week? 14hrs/day x 6 days but paid on 2 flight hrs/day x $15?

If the math adds up, for guaranteed minimums, I'm all for it as an entry level spot. If the math looks like the above, that's a problem.

Over 1600 hits on their ad...Does anybody think they will have any problem filling the position regardless of the pay or working conditions?

And that's why we can't have nice things.
