American Airlines

Are they planning on installing scimitar winglets on their 737-800's...??

Would look totally awesome..

I think the scimitar winglets look ridiculous. If they put any more airfoils on the 737 it's going to look like a Beech 1900D.

I think some low-profile tyres, flames painted down the sides, and one of those spirally cell antennae on the roof would look totally rad. Oh, and purple lights glowing inside the landing-gear wells.

Might look ridiculous to you but on the financial sheet, it makes sense. Now, if you'd avoid putting them on your plane due to the looks and forgo the fuel savings, then we'd have something to talk about.

I don't dispute that there are efficiency gains. Ultimately Boeing needs to come up with a clean sheet design to replace the 737. They've continued to stretch it to fulfill roles for which it was never originally intended. While it is the only airliner I have flown, so I can't personally compare, talking to friends who have flown both it and more modern Boeings, the flight characteristics of the 737 are apparently quite inferior in comparison. Nonetheless, it's a nice airplane.
