I wouldn't make the assumption VFR course offers will go out first just because it's the first course. When I was through school the VFR course was a few weeks earlier starting than IFR, so I made the same assumption. I also knew a guy who had gotten an IFR offer a couple weeks before so I assumed the VFR class was already filled and it was IFR or nothing for me (I was also streamed IFR). However I then got my call and it was a VFR offer, so it didn't work out how I had thought it would based on start date.Freakflyer wrote:From what I understand, offers for Moncton training will come out around the end of the year. VFR should start in February/March and IFR in April. So, I am guessing offers for VFR would be first and then offers for IFR training. Just wondering, since I qualified for IFR stream and if NAV Canada calls me for VFR, should I hold out for IFR? IFR is where I want to be, I think. Looking for opinions.
My educated guess is that generally IFR courses are filled first since that's the highest ranked stream (and those who are in IFR stream can be offered any course). Then on down the list. But again, this isn't any sort of hard and fast rule, I'm sure it is also situation specific for Nav how they do things.
Personally if you want to be an air traffic controller I would not turn down an offer (once again on the assumption that if you were ranked highly enough in thr candidate pool you would likely be offered IFR). Plus VFR is great, I was in the same boat as you of wanting IFR but I'm now very happy how it worked out.
