Last time I talked with YVR ACC they said to expect offers last week of February. Here's hoping!

Hey,
I just got pooled after my final interview a couple of weeks ago and I was told the May 1st successful candidates will hear mid February. Fingers crossed!

Well, I guess we're now mid-February (or third week, whatever you want to call it)... The wait is slowly chewing me up on the inside.
Anything yet?

Hah, I had a friend call me last week from a Surrey number and I got super excited as well. Still the waiting game.
Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
The BC blood donation clinic called me, I got super excited and then shed a couple tears as I listened to the prerecorded message.

Congrats! Are you IFR enroute or terminal?
Hope they're not done calling yet...

Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
I received a call as well yesterday for the May 1st course. The letter says Basic IFR, I assume they will decide if you go enroute or terminal after you are successful in the basic course.

Just like Abby said, I got the basic IFR course as well. Abby, how many hours do you have flying? Nice to have a fellow pilot in the course.
Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
I also received the call last week for basic IFR. Abbypilot and Steelhead, looking forward to meeting you both there!

Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
Hi guys!
A little bit late to the game here. I was on standby, but someone declined their offer and I've now been accepted to the IFR course starting May 1.
Controllercrazy, don't lose hope! If no one else changes their mind on this course (or doesn't pass medical/background), it sounds from other threads like those put on standby have a good shot at a subsequent course.

Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
TFD and controller crazy - do you have your medicals completed yet?? Just wondering how long it takes to get your category 2 from once your doctor mails it in???

Just got mine done yesterday. My Cat III for flight training didn't take long though... that is, once things actually got sent in...mjr2009 wrote:TFD and controller crazy - do you have your medicals completed yet?? Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
I went in on Friday to do mine... obviously don't have it back yet, but they told me after it was done that I passed, and that they thought it would be about 3 weeks for me to get it from TC
Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
I am asking because I got a stand by offer when you guys/girls did and was told that whoever got there background check and medicals in first would be selected first. Did they tell you how the stand by offers were given and how many received stand by offers? The waiting is killing me - it does seem that already 2 stand by offers have already been given seats? I guess that's encouraging.

Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
I wasn't given the impression that it's a race to get all the admin work done first. I always thought you are ranked, even if you are on stand by.mjr2009 wrote:I am asking because I got a stand by offer when you guys/girls did and was told that whoever got there background check and medicals in first would be selected first. As for number of offers... I'm sorry I don't know. They're tight lipped about these things!
I would think that if you are high enough to make an IFR course (even as a standby), you must be high enough for VFR. They are/will be loading for a July class - wasn't very clear when that will happen.
Re: YVR IFR for May 2017
When I was offered standby, there was definitely no mention of anything first come, first served. I was just told that I had to do the same steps as someone who was given a full offer so that I was ready in case a seat opened up, but the deadline was still the same as theirs. No mention of the number of people on standby either.
That being said, if they explicitly told you that you were in a first come, first served scenario, then don't go by what we were told. Just get the medical done and your admin paperwork mailed in as soon as possible... that won't hurt you either way.
Good luck!

Well - whatever the case is I am on stand by - here's hoping for an offer - IFR or VFR. Still a awaiting game. I have my medical in just waiting for them to mail it back to me. Cheers

If you ranked high enough for an IFR class, you will probably be a confirmed seat for VFR when it happens. Seems to make sense in my mind (that's what I was waiting for anyway until this came through) - especially since they are/will be loading soon.
If you are VFR, you will definitely 100% the ITA!
