Anyone in YEG get a call for upcoming training yet?

Im trying not to freak the hell out, I know its super early and calls have just started going out, its just all this ambiguity and prolonged waiting/putting life on hold.....its already 2:15pm MST meaning in Gander it would be 5:45pm Newfoundland time....meaning if we didn't get a call (or missed our call) we have to wait until Monday....my stomach is in knots, this is going to be the first time in my life I absolutely hate a weekend.

Got an offer! They called from Gander, VFR May 23.

I dont remember did you stream IFR and elected for VFR? or did you stream VFR?

To answer your question, Im not too sure what I was streamed. I was part of the referral program so my process would have been a but different. After I passed the final interview I received an email saying I was placed into the candidate pool but never specified what stream!

Wonder if they made all offers for May's IFR and VFR courses. Seems likely seeing as there's only ~12-14 seats to go around and it's not that many calls to make.... If I don't receive a call by the end of the week I think I can assume that there will be no offer forthcoming.

He said for the IFR course 7 were ab initio and 1 person cross-training. They hold the seats until March 13 so people may decide not to and more seats will open up. I don't know if they are done making calls yet or not.

I got a call this morning offering me FSS. The classroom segment would be in the Surrey ACC, but the assignment would be in the Edmonton FIR. It *really* isn't my preferred option, but I'll talk it over with my wife...

well its something i guess, I told them I would not be willing to do FSS as it is too remote (most likely) for my wife's career....VFR I will make work, IFR is ideal.....havnt heard anything yet though, im starting to get discouraged, I feel like all my friends are invited to a big birthday party and I am not invited....

well its something i guess, I told them I would not be willing to do FSS as it is too remote (most likely) for my wife's career....VFR I will make work, IFR is ideal.....havnt heard anything yet though, im starting to get discouraged, I feel like all my friends are invited to a big birthday party and I am not invited....

I was told that I wasn't ranked high enough to make even the standby list for IFR or VFR this time around, so that means that if they aren't offering you FSS then you're still in the running for a standby spot or cancellation. I did mention at the interview that I was not interested in FSS due to the remoteness (and massive pay cut), but I'll give it careful consideration if that's all I'm ever going to be offered.

for sure, its not even a preference for me, its not a possibility for us for multiple reasons.....I would take VFR in a heart beat although I would prefer IFR....I would take anything in YWG as well, but you cant be considered in two areas at once I am told...they havnt told me where I rank, they wont say how many in the pool, or any likelihoods, it is all extremely vague and nothing specific....I totally get why they do it that way but it just sucks to be in the dark.

I also get the prep material to prepare for May's course, so if I don't get in, come fall time I will know that material backwards and forwards

either way at this point im just hoping to get my butt in a seat, dont much care where.....and VFR is what I originally wanted so thats kinda funny, I switched preference to IFR since it starts higher pay (unless you get YYC tower) and its no moving, and a nice challenge....the tour of the centre made it seem more appealing too

Maybe you can get Whitehorse, if my husband's job wasn't so good here I would have loved to go VFR and gun for Whitehorse tower, I love that area.

Maybe you can get Whitehorse, if my husband's job wasn't so good here I would have loved to go VFR and gun for Whitehorse tower, I love that area.

whitehorse would not be a top choice for me haha....Looking at the NavCanada map they dont have a current VFR tower at whitehorse, just yellowknife.....maybe its not updated.....

Regardless I just want a seat, doesn't matter where, just a seat.

Did they say you were next in line for the standby offer? I got an identical call for VFR training starting May 23. They are sending me the pre course materials also. It will help our applications regardless. Just wondering if they told us both the same thing
