I missed the boat!

Post by highlander »

I have just over 5000 hours. I have a degree. I have flown numerous types. More than half my time is PIC.

I haven't gotten the call yet. I think I missed the boat. Does anyone else feel like this. What are my chances now? Curious about what some of the higher time people think. I will admit that I am jealous that the lower time guys and gals are getting the call. I have been applying at AC since 1997.

:(

Don't worry, there aren't that many low time guys out there and when they're gone, AC won't have much choice but to hire us washed out high timers. :?

Highlander, use your brain. The requirement for AC is forcasted at 600 pilots over the next few years. They've hired about 40 so far, and 25-30 of those were from the old hiring pool. Most of the people hired have been high time guys, with a few low timers thrown into the mix. Of course, those are the ones people bitch about on these sites. I don't think you've missed the boat, I think you've missed the big picture.

Actually, they too missed the boat... so they built one.

Cheers.

I can sympathize, I'm in exactly the same boat. I think we took the wrong one, Dammit.

I did too, should have follow advice and got a university degree... but from Jazz I wont need one....so Maybe I'll manage to get on the mainline, but do I really want to... not a question of money (the mainline pay is good) but could I put up with the life there are living??? with a bit of seniority at Jazz, I can make it home almost every night....

Stop chassing the alluminum, do what will fit your life.

You can enjoy more your life flying as an instructor with low wage than puching button on the big rig figuring how you'll pay for the next divorce....

let's have another one

jeez, a couple of months in to the hiring and you think you've missed the boat?? Relax. Instead you should be worrying about being hired late and then being the first one laid off.

The problem is that if you look at past hiring trends, hiring was done based on supply and demand and probably reflected what was available. We have all heard the stories of low timers getting on at AC (less than 500 hours) (that was a long time ago) As time progressed the hours went up for various reasons. So most of us early on knew that unless we had 3 or 4 thousand hours we didn't have a chance. Many of us are NOW beyond the "minimums".....and I think for some of us it's hard to see people "fresh" into this industry get interviews, when some of us have spent many years trying for the same spot. With that said, when I first said I felt I missed the boat I really felt like that. But having read some of the others posts I am happy to see that there has been some sound advice and words of encouragement and other people feel the same. :)

I wouldn't worry too much. AC has hired, about 60 out of the estimated 1000 pilots that they'll need in the next 5 years. Those are still pretty good odds regardless of your time and qualifications.

Is that how you spell "kay serah??"

Must be like the Latin version or something.

(I shouldn't criticize... I can't even speak English correctly half the time.)

I like how the further down this thread i got the more pilots they were hiring!!! First 40 out of 600, then 60 outta 1000. Its looking better all the time. On a more serious note if you want some idea if your being looked at I know a couple people who went to update there profile and they couldnt bring it up. It had been pulled by AC and they got calls after. Just a F.Y.I

All right Kingar :) Now, don't forget to prove your language skills by singing that in the interview. They'd prefer French, but, hey, languages are languages.
