Another Air Canada Airbus 330 loses a wheel on takeoff from YUL to LHR...

Continue and landed in LHR minus the wheel.

Another A330 did a reject takeoff in EBBR for the same reason about a month ago.

I can see continuing takeoff if above 100 kts (or whatever SOP speed they choose) as a high speed hey weight abort has more issues than a light weight landing, but they lost it on taxi!? Be interesting to both have a 330 pilot comment on the aircraft braking system ( some anti-skid systems do not work properly when either a tire is under inflated or sensor fails/no sped input for 1 tire + what indications would the crew have?) & see the TCSB report (might be interesting if it comes out before 2020).

Good thing AC maintains those birds to the highest standards - hate to see what would happen with shoddy maintenance ;-)

I suspect a lot of this is lost in the lingo. The term "taxiing down the runway, preparing to take off" is non-descriptive. Maybe "taxiing" at t/o power, accelerating rapidly towards V1. Both articles are so vague, nobody can tell what actually happened just by what is said.

In the first incident on the takeoff out of EBBR, they rejected at 82 kts and returned the aircraft to the gate.

In the incident out of Montreal for London they actually continued the takeoff... The wheel was found somewhere down runway 06L.

Incidents of this type always remind me of the story of a kingdom lost for want of a nail...best to honor the lives of those lost by remembering and learning. Thankfully, in this event, there was "zero safety impact". It's always a chain of unfortunate events.
