Long haul and dry skin and nose
I wanted to ask how do long haul or even domestic pilots deal with getting dried out from being in pressurized airplanes for so many hours a month? If I do one flight of around 5 hours of more my skin and especially inside my nose will be so dry that I'll even have an occasional nose bleed for days after. I'm nervous I won't be able to work for Air Canada since you are spending many hours a month in very dry air. I drink as much water as possible and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Do any long haul pilots have this problem and do you have any solutions that work for you? Thanks.
Re: Long haul and dry skin and nose
Keep on top of moisturizing hands and face, and like you mentioned, drink plenty of water. Like most foreign environments, if your body is only exposed occasionally your skin will react, but more than likely with more regular exposure you will adapt.

Why not just run the shower for a while and steam the room haha

I always have a bottle of Saline Spray. Works like a charm. I've asked my CAME and there are apparently no long term side effects to using it.

Have to try that. I tried that Secaris stuff from an airport news store. Works ok. Better than a nosebleed.AF1000 wrote:I always have a bottle of Saline Spray. Works like a charm. I've asked my CAME and there are apparently no long term side effects to using it.

Apply a couple of times per day with a q-tip. Works great.

Thanks for the tips guys. That Secaris looks like just the ticket. I'll have stock up next time I'm through a Canadian airport.
