I wouldn't equate more hours to better skills or standard. It may be an indication of potential but certainly not of competency.PostmasterGeneral wrote:Everybody seems to "know a guy" who gets on at Jazz with insanely low time. The fact is, I've worked there for awhile and haven't seen anyone awarded an interview with less than about 1,500 hours unless they were in the college program. At least not yet...Pt6-42 wrote:How much time are guys getting interviews at these days

I agree, however, more hours (hopefully) means more "Experiences" and experience in general. From what I've seen and heard the junior and low time people have great skills and book/AC knowledge.

Then there are different types of experiences. 1500 times the same hour or 1500 different hours.KenoraPilot wrote:I agree, however, more hours (hopefully) means more "Experiences" and experience in general. Heard from a realiable source that the minimums will be dropping to 1000 TT and 250 multi in the next couple months. Planning on hiring 250+ pilots between now and the end of 2017.
Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
These numbers are pretty impressive. Should we expect the same numbers for next year?47north wrote: Planning on hiring 250+ pilots between now and the end of 2017.
Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
It apparently is not going to stop for a while. With the new duty time regulations and ongoing attrition to AC and elsewhere, there is supposed to be at least one class a month indefinitely. More like two a month for the rest of the year.Maple_30 wrote:These numbers are pretty impressive. So that covers 2017, anyone with an educated guess as to how does the hiring situation look further out in 2018 and beyond at Jazz ?

Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
All I know is what I've heard from my buddies at AC. Last bid they had had 330 vacancies on it. They are planning 400-600 retirements over the next 5-10years (he said average 100 a year starting around 2020) so you can extrapolate from that. So as long as AC likes it's PMA agreement system I would figure Jazz and the other tier 2 carriers would continue to be feeders. Maybe not at this insane level but who knows....I doubt even the crystal ball would get this one right. This also doesn't account for A/C expansion if that happens. (My 2 cents)
Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
I ran into the guy who did my jazz interview in 2016 on the crew bus the other day. He says they've been running off their feet with interviews and have been told to expect it to continue at this pace for at least another 5 years..dhc# wrote:So that covers 2017, anyone with an educated guess as to how does the hiring situation look further out in 2018 and beyond at Jazz ?
So I would say 2018 and beyond will be very strong with new hires

Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
I was at a ground school last year and one of my colleague didn't do a whole year and he was hired by Jazz based in Montreal on RJ. I am myself building my hours towards the ATPL but in fact, in my opinion since I am concerned and as I read through all of you on this post, low timers (500-1000 hours) have sometime the drive, the motivation to work hard on a ground school or a simulation evaluation, better than a person that has a lot of flight time. I work at an airliner simulator and the only thing I've notice is that personality matters sometimes and is quit important. I " flew " with experienced ATR and BAE pilots and the only thing I could say is that I've seen an ILS on any sides possible on this earth, I let you deduce what I meant on that. The flight time is one thing but the person makes the difference and if you find my thoughts a little bit displaced, I would guide you through scientific researches that proove those toughts, it is a fact and experience shouldn't be based only on flight time but also on the person himself. Have you ever heard " he has 250 hours but he flies like he would have 500 "? It is a very very good opportunity to work with 1000 hours at Jazz and we will see in a couple of years what will happen!

Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
When I first read this thread I thought my application at Jazz was useless with only 800TT, but here I am 1 month later with a job offer and a groundschool date in July.
If you really want the job, just keep applying and they'll call eventually.

Congratulations seriously. I don't know you but I am very happy for you and proud for you! I'll maybe see you there in a couple of months, who knows? Work hard and be disciplined.

I have about 1400hrs with 460hrs of multi time (Prop driven) and currently working towards my AAs. I only have a valid IATRA as of now and no degree/diploma. No commercial experience either. What are the chances of Jazz considering someone these days with my kind of experience??
Any info/guidance on this would be awesome. Thanks!
In today's aviation situation, smaller companies would have swooped in to hire someone of your experience. have you applied with any of them? or are you ignoring those steps and get directly into jazz?
hmm.... you must be real picky..

Jane, I was hired around the same time as you but with commercial experience. It's worth a shot, but you may have to fly for a year or so at a smaller carrier. FO on a King Air would for a year would be enough I'd say to have a good shot at Jazz or another regional.
But... apply for the jobs you want not the ones you think you'll get, so I say go for it. What's the worst that can happen? They say no, and you reapply in a year once you have some commercial experience. You could walk into any right seat of a turbine with that time given the current state of jobs... you might have to leave your home though.
Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
I was flying with the captain who interviewed me last year. He told me that as long as you have 750 hours and some operational IFR experience, you'll pretty much be hired.
I understand that the learning curve may be steep for someone coming in with lesser experience but that's all it is. It may be tougher to learn but not impossible. Follow your SOPs and always be willing to accept new knowledge.
For the people who are hating on the low experience pilots coming in, just accept the changing conditions of the industry and encourage and motivate the new candidates coming in. It is no one's fault that there is a pilot shortage, so just ACCEPT that this is how things are and work together to keep things safe and happy.
For the new candidates getting the opportunity to work for a 705 with low experience, appreciate it and enjoy the experience. When things come easy, it's hard to not get a sense of entitlement. Stay humble.
Good luck to everyone.

It is the way it is. If I had 200 hours and got offered Jazz of course I would take it. Anyone would. Would I trade my experience and fun I had in the north for it? Not a chance.

Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
That's my thinking as well. If I at the time was offered a job at 200-500 hours I would have taken it. But looking back at the experience I gained flying in 703 and the fun times had, I wouldn't trade it. Plus, it most definitely helped once I started flying at a 705.Rupert_Pupkin wrote:It is the way it is. If I had 200 hours and got offered Jazz of course I would take it. Anyone would. I know a number of 1000ish pilots who have been offered and had interviews, and one that was around 850TT. Seems that's the way things are going. And honestly, I'm happy for anyone who gets the call and wish them good luck.KenoraPilot wrote:Just ran into a Sim guy and he said last month they did Sim Evals on guys with 750 & 790TT.......so they are going lower and lower on requirements.

While I too am happy for those pilots, I am a little concerned by the experience levels coming here. I hope for their sake, they have the PIC time required for the atpl. With the rate upgrades are coming, where does the company think we are going to get captains when these folks can't even hold an atpl?Black_Tusk wrote:I know a number of 1000ish pilots who have been offered and had interviews, and one that was around 850TT. I hope all these folks have a plan to get the time required for the atpl. I wouldn't rely on PICUS to get them any closer to it.
Perhaps that is the plan though. These guys won't be able to upgrade and they won't be able to go over to AC for quite a while. Maybe it is a way to keep some FOs around.

Each person I know that had an interview that low for TT had well over the 250PIC (most of them had MPIC) and the ATPL exams done.
It's also not just the upgrade, but AC right now requires (as per the last PML) 2000TT and an ATPL. So that's a good two years ish for a sub 1000 hour FO. If they can make it through the training at Jazz I would be happy to fly with any of them.
Re: Jazz Reqiurements?
Hi,
How about having some single engine turbine IFR (caravan) as a first officer, do they still require that multi turbine 2 crew environment or single turbine is fine?
Thanks !
