Not sure if this is True. I was told when the doctor signs your license booklet its only Valid for 60 days. With out the sticker transport sends to put in your book your medical is no longer Valid after 60 days. I had a friend that didn't pay and didn't get the sticker. He called transport looking for it. He was told when he pays the $55 they will mail his sticker.

The stamp, date and signature of your CAME is all you need until your next medical comes due unless there is a change to your status that requires a new sticker. Then you can expect TC to withold it if you aren't paid up.

So are all of you people that aren't paying the fee actually doing anything about informing TC as to why you aren't paying it? How exactly is one to differentiate between someone who just doesn't pay their bills and someone who is protesting the charge by refusing to pay? If you want to be a rebel or a leader or whatever, make a public statement and be bold about not paying, don't just grouch about it behind an anonymous username and expect the world to know that you are performing an act of civil disobedience....

I remember when the rationale behind the fee was indeed for receiving the AIP - just curious, if at the time the AIP was no longer sent out, TC made an announcement that the fees would now help to pay for maintenance on the AIM and CARs online, would that have been an equivalent reason? (It's not like web site designers/maintainers work for free)

It could have been, until the CARS left the TC website and went to another government website and became impossible to find anything in.

The AIM and AIP (such as it is) are still there, as are the CAR stds... and to be accurate, it was impossible to find anything in the CARs on TC's site, too ;) I used to use IE, but the CARs tend to blow it up (and actually, this site pretty much hung on it as well) - they really need to break up the page containing the CARs instead of just linking to headers in the giant file

My understanding is that it's only a TC medical "processing of license" fee. Pay it or not is completely up to you, but a no payment might result in poor credit history down the line. Who knows how all these Government agencies are connected? Better to be safe than sorry.

Besides, people pay "processing fees" for other things in life all the time. One of the biggest BS ones I've come across is when you're getting a new phone. I mean, you just shelled out a few hundred bucks to buy a new phone and/or signed a contract. Now you gotta pay again to ACTIVATE that very contract? Give me a break!

I've only paid it in the last five years as my employer covers the fee, prior to that, I think I owe for at least six years!

How will you explain that to your boss if they have to pull you off the schedule until you get your license back? Especially if it costs them a bunch of money.

Has anyone ever had their license suspended because they did not pay T.C. the extortion fee?

First of all it's not an "extortion fee". Second, while I don't think they can actually suspend a license for that, I think they can refuse to issue a new one. So if you're waiting for a new medical sticker, type rating, endorsement etc, you might have an unpleasant and completely self-induced surprise.

You think?

But you don't know do you?

So let me educate you on this subject.

They can not refuse to issue any new documents because you do not pay their extortion fee.

Their ace in the hole is they can collect it through your income tax returns....but only if you have overpaid your taxes.

If you know so much why are you asking questions? Also could you please provide a reference backing up your certain knowledge, otherwise it's just what you think as well.

Rockie, my opinion is based on logic and common sense.

If T.C. has the power to refuse you documentation that you have qualified for because you have not paid their extortion demand regarding your medical they would have refused thousands of people.

Because there are thousands of incidents over the past years where pilots do not pay their extortion demand.

I am sure happy I am not a socialist.

But, you are sure happy to live in a socialist country. Driving on socialist roads, using socialist electricity and water and going to socialist hospitals when you are sick. How does that work? Hmmmm.

Seems to me I just read somewhere that you should "Love the county you live in OR Live in the country you love" another Hmmmmmm. Very few people are restrained from leaving the socialist country.

The roads, electricity and water are paid for by the citizens of this socialistic country.

And I have paid a hell of a lot more than most of you here having owned many businesses over many decades so I am entitled to use them.

The health care system in Canada is a joke compared to what it should be so I sure hope I never get realy sick and have to depend on the eight to five, five days a week except holidays hours this system operates on.

For sure I have considered living elsewhere, but at my age it is not worth all the effort it would require to sell my holdings and move.

By the way if I did decide to move one of my first choices would be Belize.

Hypocrisy huh, well O.K. if that makes you feel better but at least while I am still here I sure pay a lot into the system, especially compared to the average slave wages earning pilot in Canada.

TC withheld my new type rating sticker last month due to just one $55 fee (last years med) until I paid it in full.

Belize does have a number of public hospitals but most expats prefer to use the private clinics.

But since all these facilities lack the quality care of hospitals in the U.S. and neighboring countries, some many expats leave Belize for more complicated types of medical treatment

With approximately six years of fees owing to TC, I have had my ATPL processed in one months time, many medical stickers issued, two aviation documents (license booklets) issued and a few collection letters.
If they want it, take it off my tax return!

It's always puzzled me why people would not only refuse to pay their minor legitimate bills, but put their ability to earn a living in their chosen field at risk by doing so. Then boasting about it.

To me it displays a very strange set of priorities.

I'm not boasting, simply sharing my experience with the issue and how I believe it could be solved.
