Skyservice Airlines Inc was created and owned by the same group of investors that controls Skyservice Business Aviation Services, in the mid 90s. It was sold to private equity firm Gibralt Capital Group in the summer of 2007. The board of directors of the airline was kept in place, and many HR ressources were still shared during the transition, some of which beeing: pay, pension, benefits, etc.

They operated as two totally separate companies since 2008, although both kept the Skyservice name because of brand recognition each of them had in their market segments.

HOUSTON (Dow Jones)-Pilots at Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL) and UAL Corp.'s (UAUA) United Airlines want to end outsourcing of flying to regional partners following their planned merger, a move likely to shake up the industry's already turbulent labor relations.

Jay Pierce, head of Continental's pilots' union, expects the proposal to receive a cool reception from management, but said mainline company pilots can fly regional jets just as cheaply following years of contract concessions.
This is what is to follow, "1st we'll get some competition to drive down the price, then we'll reward ourselves with fat bonuses for a job well done, then when we're not doing so well during the next crisis, we'll get the peons to take wage cuts because we can prove it's cheaper to use tier 2 providers competeting for the work, then reward ourselves with fat bonuses for a job well done. Who's in???"

Ahhhahaha. Jazz gets Sky Service's 757 work and then AC gives away the new Dash 8 work to...... Sky Service. The ironing is delicious. Watch the new dash pilots at Sky Service work for way less than Jazz pilots now*.

When does AC's contract with Jazz expire? Something tell me that if SK does a good/cheap job with the Q400's they'll be operating a bunch of RJ's soon. If I was a Jazz pilot I'd be looking to get on those Boeings quick. Soon they might be the only airplanes they have left.

* But all their other pilots get a small raise that they were due anyways.

Nah, Samson, I ain't worried. Word is now we're getting your EMJ 175s, so I'm not worried about a few Q400s.

Well I am pretty sure it is for Air Canada, as in tier 2 flying. Operated by Skyservice BAS. Aircraft from Frontier Lynx I believe.

So anyone knows with the intro of 15 new Q400 at Jazz, how many Crj200 are being retired? And are there plans to acquire in the future more Crj705s? Or replace older Dash-8 300s?

The first 2 Q4's to arrive will add to the CPA covered fleet. At present I believe there are 123 aircraft dedicated to CPA flying and the CPA calls for 125 covered aircraft with an additional 8 "swing" aircraft (RJ's). The remaining Q4's (13) will replace CRJ 100/200's. Another 15 options are in place but I believe none have been exercised and I would think they would be destined to replace RJ's.

I've just read in "news" that the Q400s are destined initially to the "central region" of Canada, due to customers demands - Air Canada.
No, its not a rumor...

It will be interesting to see if Jazz will have a common type rating for the Q as well...

I thought that idea was put to bed a long time ago? I think it would have to be bid as seperate equipment.

I think the whole point of SkyRegional is just to put the final nail in the coffin for Porter. Once that happens there will be no more SkyRegonal.
