Well said Niss ....with the Watercooler gone, there are no more conversations like used to take place in the back corner of the hangar after the day's flying was done, the airplanes all put to bed, paperwork complete and filed, and then a couple of beers would flow before walking back to the crew house.

Unfortunately, too many of the posters disagreed with the aims and beliefs of the site, so it outlived its usefulness in a quest for the perception of being a "professional" appearing aviation forum.

Alas .....

I've seen entire threads disappear due to lack of aviation content. I guess I'm the only one who has other interests? Amazed this thread is still with us.

You're without doubt a great pilot, but your pilot skills aren't what get you in trouble.

Hmmm, I'm surprised - I don't think they fly surface aerobatics.

True, not anymore I let my unrestricted airdisplay authority for flying in the European airshow circuit lapse in 2005, got tired of all the B.S. in airshow flying and retired.

You got this respectable unrestricted airdisplay authority to display the Canso overthere no?

Never saw one flying surface aerobatic.
So DowneastGuy may have a point

The long gone Doc was just annoying and irrational. Goodbye.

Cat just spent all the time saying how great he is compared to most others who were basically incompetent. Probably could have been another good storyteller like that guy a few years back who passed away, but he chose not to. Goodbye, unless you have some great stories to tell. We need aguy like that again.

The Colonel does similar as CAT at times(and in his case, it may be true in some areas) but he has provided tons of good information on various subjects that are usually correct and informative. I find many of his posts useful and have gone through a search of old posts to learn more. Waiting for more. Some of the videos and pictures are cool as well.

What is a Canso?

What is your point?

Do you have problems with reading and your check list does not cover the word " unrestricted" ?

Here is a hint about what I flew in Europe, one of the aircraft had the registration PH PEP. and it was not a PBY.

I just love this forum where we can feel like we belong to a group that have similar interests to share and everyone is tolerant.

My posting here has been very few and far between since last Sept, however I do sometimes answer in threads that were posted with me as the subject such as this thread.

My career in aviation is over, it was great for me and I can sympathize with some of you who may be stuck in a rut but that is not my problem nor do I really give a rats ass what you think about what I did or did not fly.

So go pound salt TG and Pelmet.

Hows it hangin Illya?

We are on the way west again and will probably stop in your area.....what happened the last time we were there, you didn't show up.

Didn't get to visit the Colonel as we ran out of time in this area due to to many family to visit.....we are in Orngeville at the moment and just do not have enough time to go over to Smith Falls.....sadly.

Yeh, a few of the posters here seem to have a inferiority complex and love to rip others apart, it would be nice to know what their skills in aircraft are....

.......did you notice the Colonel admires you and me but has not yet included these guys who are so critical about us?

When I started into this business forty-odd years ago we looked up to and respected the pilots and engineers that went before us. They had the knowledge, skills and experience. When they started talking, we listened because that's how you learned back then. "wooden planes and iron men" Heard that many times. The conditions were harsh, to say the least, what you needed to know to get the job done wasn't written down anywhere and the only way to overcome the challenges was to try to absorb the knowledge from those who had already accomplished these tasks. These days every fresh young candidate is sent to one technical school or the other and after a few short years now knows everything there is to know about modern aviation and just can't wait to thumb their nose at those that have lived through many eras of evolution of aviation that has brought us to this point. Very few, if any of these people wouldn't even consider leaving the ground without an elaborate GPS and just in case that quit.....a second one for a back up. They respect the guy that turns down every flight because of some loophole in the company SOP's. It just makes me sick when I see people like this hurl insults at someone like Catdriver that has flown "Cansos", and many other old birds around the world "With nothing on the clocks but the makers name". What the hell has happened to aviation?
