I curious how you envision the idea of a general trucker strike working. I mean, it's not like all the truckers in Canada are in a union. There are a number of large companies that hire thousands of truckers, there are a number of smaller companies, and there are a lot of independent truckers.rookiepilot wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 5:28 pm I think its time, if all truckers are no more than Racist Homophobic Misogynistic terrorists, that they leave Ottawa…go home….and commence a general strike.
No violence. No protest. Just stop driving. Immediately.
A month would be great. I’m guessing the rhetoric would change. What would the government do about thousands of independent drivers refusing loads? Arrest them?
Do it. I’m fine with it. Is everyone else?
Unless you're talking about all the truckers that are currently taking part in the protest going on strike, in which case the effect is pretty easy to predict: it would result in the same reduction in goods transport as what we've seen in the past week. Not much. There are maybe a couple thousand truckers involved in this protest, out of about 300000 in Canada. Taking less than 1% of the workforce out of a particular industry, while not entirely unnoticed, does not have the effect of shutting down the industry. It would bring up the price of transport a bit which, while not good for the customers of the transport companies, would certainly be appreciated by the remaining drivers as well as other forms of transport.
