Well said mellow. NWONT, I'm didn't bash the US, I merely pointed out that they have their own troubles to worry about, they don't need to interfere in Canadian politics.
The majority of these people make their living off the land one way or another. They may be rednecks and would take no offence to be called that. They would be the first to extend the hand of friendship and would break their back to help a stranger, then give you the shirt off it.
That's fantastic, sounds alot like most of the farmers that lived near the farm I grew up on in evil southern Ontario. Funny how as long as they're not from southern Ontario, people are generally good in your opinion. But if you're from the wrong side of that imaginary line...look out.
nothing more than to be allowed to live our lives without interferance from a pack of crooked, slimy polititions and the mind contolled sheep from the GTA.
OK well, ignorance displayed again by insinuating that southern Ontario=GTA. Aside from that, I lived in northern Ontario for years and never felt any interference whatsoever from anyone.
Also would you please lay off that crock of bullshit about the south paying the expenses of the north. You people have been repeating that crap so long your starting to believe it youself. If it wasn't for the paper mills, lumber mills, mines, oil reserves, cattle, grain fields and a hundred other natural resource items, Toronto would be a slum or ghost town.
I don't know why you're saying "you people" as if because I don't agree with your narrow mindedness I must by default live in southern Ontario, but sorry, that is not the case. I live in western Canada, just so you know. Also, I never said the south pays the expenses of the north, but for argument's sake ask yourself this question. Would this country suffer more if northern Ontario completely shut down, or Toronto? The answer should be obvious albeit hard for you to admit. Let's not forget that long before the north was opened, Toronto was an established bustling centre. Yes, northern Ontario has mines and forestry, but could you inform me where the vast northern Ontario oil reserves, cattle farms and grain fields are located? I mean, I know for a fact southern Ontario has all those things, yes even oil and mines, but in all my travels through northern Ontario I've never seen an oil field and no cattle or grain farms big enough to be anything more than glorified hobby farms.
I work with US citizens enough that I tend to forget there is a border between us, as we all share a love of the great outdoors. The purpose of this thread was to discuss a law abiding citizen being destroyed by a tyrannical and oppressive government pushing through laws that are against our constitution. Not to listen to some spaceman wannabe with his panties in a knot.
Well if you'd get over your persecution complex long enough to get to know a couple southern Ontario folks, you'd learn that they too share a love of the outdoors. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to live in the pristine north. As I tried to inform you before most of them are simple people just trying to live their lives and provide for their families the best they can. And they're pissed off about the registry as well.
Calling our government tyrannical and oppressive is nothing more than hyperbole, which is fine, but I'm no constitutional scholar and generally don't give 2 shits about politics (I couldn't be bothered to waste my time worrying about what a pack of filthy liars have to say) so maybe you could inform me as to how these laws violate our constitution.
Finally, I guess my avatar really has you distracted since you keep bringing it up. But in the interest of getting to know each other, I guess I should tell you I don't want to be a spaceman and I'm a boxers kinda guy. That picture is a CD cover. Great album, you should check it out.

PS-If you love nature and the outdoors as much as I do, you should check out this place, it's my all-time favourite hiking spot and in my opinion one of the most beautiful places on the planet:
Image
Image
Image
I guess you'll probably never see this place in real life since you'd probably expire if you had to spend any time in this hell of southern Ontario but I guarantee you the pictures don't do it justice.

Here's an article I clipped from some newspaper back in December 1995.
Titled "Be happy to be a victim:Rock" by Derek Nelson.
A couple of years ago, I was standing astride the Arizona-Nevada border on the Hoover Dam, when a motorcyclist pulled into the parking spot beside me.
He was riding a Harley-Davidson and wore immaculate blue leathers. He also had a holstered handgun strapped to his leg.

Canadians are not only forbidden to publicly display their firearms, we are forbidden to use them in such a way as this motorcyclist was doing, as a deterrent to anyone who wanted to mess with him.
In fact, with royal assent given this week to Justice Minister Allan Rock's savage and inequitable gun control bill, it has become a crime to own a firearm in Canada without government permission, never mind publicly displaying one.
A 300 year old right to bear arms, going back to the Bill of Rights in 1689, has been stripped from us.

Rock is saying that Canadians should be happy to be victims, to passively allow criminals to walk all over them.
Even Rock acknowledges that police can't prevent crime.

Increasingly, one hears personal stories of how police ignore ciminal activities because they're "too busy" or "lack manpower". {OR SCARED}
Perversely, police do seem to find time to charge more and more people who defend themselves or their property.
The scariest numbers are from England. Since Britain essentially stripped its citizens of the right to own firearms in 1988 criminals have had a field day.
As legal gun ownership fell in Britain, gun homicide has risen, violent crime rates have accelerated, and robberies using firearms have soared out of sight.

The right of self defence when your "back is against the wall" is an ancient common-law right that has been stripped from Canadians with a minimum of protest.
In Florida, the crime and murder rate dropped dramatically as thousands of concealed-weapons permits were issued.
This is about the time Florida criminals started targeting foreign tourists because they don't carry pistols.
There are two guarantees that come with Rock's new gun-control law.
One is that the rules for firearm ownership will become tighter and tighter as he and those like him move towards Rock's admitted goal of a society where only the state owns firearms.
The second is that crime rates will rise where thugs are certain their victims have no access to firearms.
AIN'T NO USE BRINGING A BASEBALL BAT TO A GUNFIGHT!

Hey shimmydampner, I said "geographically". Demographically involves population. So don't bring that into the argument.
The reason I mentioned that Toronto-based maps are useless is that they show three quarters of the province in a little corner by itself. A globe shows the true scale.
Stick with it boy, you could learn something today.

Hey settle down now.
I know rocks and trees don't vote. What's that got to do with it?
Rocks and trees don't need gun control either.
The point is that an urban population with the voting power is wielding their laws over the wilderness. There is no need for that. Make your laws suitable to yourself. Don't bring all of Canada in just because you have the population advantage.
And don't tell me I don't NEED a firearm. Have you ever seen a bear inside your house. Don't think closing a door will keep it out. Bears have been seen to hook their claws into a door and rip it off its hinges.
Why call 911 when the doughnut shop is 60 miles away.
I know this is too much for some urban imaginations.
Might as well shut this down. Urban people look out their windows and see 500 people they can call out to.
I can fire my .303 and not hit a soul unless he's trespassing.
There is no swat team close by, no army to call when it snows, if my house burns down when it's 40 below I depend on stored spare clothes in my garage to survive.
Did I go too fast for anyone?

I did learn something I just learned you're even less intelligent than I first suspected. I don't even know how to respond to your argument because it makes no sense. Anyone with a grade 5 education could see that it doesn't make any sense. I know you said geographically, and I'm well aware of what "demographically" means. I'm not sure how you're trying to connect the dots between northern Ontario having more land mass yet a fraction of the population, and this argument.
More indication of your lack of education or intelligence or both is evidenced with this gem of a statement:
A 300 year old right to bear arms, going back to the Bill of Rights in 1689, has been stripped from us.
Little history lesson. Canada became independent when??? Spooky...when did Canada become independent??? Don't know?? It was 1867. And does Canada have a Bill of Rights?? Spooky?? Don't know this one either?? The answer is no, Canada does not have a Bill of Rights. What does Canada have instead Spooky? Hmmm? No idea? It's the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. And when did that come into force Spooky?? No clue? That would be April 17, 1982. And is there any right in that document that includes a right to bear arms Spooky? Don't know? The answer is no, there is no such right included in that document. So have we had any rights stripped from us Spooky? The answer is no. Do you have the US and Canada confused because you don't have a clue what the big boys here are talking about and you're in way over your head Spooky?? Hmmm??? Yes, the answer is yes you are confused.
And you thought I was gonna learn something today....isn't that cute. Better to keep your mouth shut and let people think you're ignorant than to open your mouth and remove all doubt you twit.

So why don't you take a page out of the quebec playbook and try to seperate? Form your own province? Don't like how the majority controls even though the majority dosnt live where you do? Vote yourselves into a new territory.

You guys could be a distinct nation too....and then you could bitch about how the rest of the country hates you and that you guys have to listen to the other 304 MPs in Ottawa voted....then when its still not what you want you guys can bitch some more, then you can hold another referendum and seperate from Canada. Youll probably never survive on your own though, Mosenee is hardly a financial powerhouse....so you will probably join the US as a territory like Guam or Puerto Rico....then youll have the right to bear arms.....and then youll finally stop bitchen wont you?

Hey dipshit. That's a quote from an article, I didn't write it.
Maybe the Bill of Rights referred to exists in Great Britain. They were here for awhile.

Ok, at least I can understand your point now. Because a solid third of the country's population lives in a relatively small area, their vote should count for less. Or we should have different laws for different people in different areas?
I haven't seen a bear inside my house, but have had wolves prowling around my front door. No need for a gun, went outside with a flashlight and a baseball bat and they were gone in a flash. Had multiple encounters with black bears outside, again, no gun required. My dog ran them off promptly and when he wasn't around they still never bothered me. Hiked around plenty of polar bear territory, no gun, no problems as long as I was conscious of the danger didn't put myself in a bad spot.

It's OK, calm down spooky. Besides, desperation is a stinky cologne. After all, I'm not the dipshit, I'm not the one quoting articles without reference which have no relation to this country even.

As usual the topic of this thread has been pulverized into obscurity. Mellow-pilot you are right, I did register my guns and it was humiliating and degrading. The only reason I gave in was my son is a police officer and I didn't want to be dragged to a stalag for noncompliance. My objections are, the government has no need to know what is in the homes of law abiding people. To this day, as I have said, I have never felt the need to protect myself from my fellow man. My weapons are no threat to anyone, but when the government feels the need to know, there's a reason for it. Secondly, the cost has soared past a billion and is not slowing down, Even the Liberals admit that when every leagal weapon is registered it will cost over two million a year just to keep up with leagal sales between law abiding citizens and people changing residences. They will never all be registered so the cost will never come down to the two mill. If its public safety we are interested in, that incredible expense could put a lot more police on the beat and by a lot more state of the art crime fighting equipment. People have asked me if I thought its worth if a cop can check his computor to see if there are guns in a house he is about to enter. I say no, I like them to think there are many guns in every house they enter and enter accordingly. We are getting nothing for our money. I'm not going to retype all my letters here but the arguement that an intelligent, articulate young woman that has no more than related the facts on tape seems to drive everyone up the wall is not an abuse of anyone. The gun owners have done everything in their power to get the message out but no one has ever listened. This tape has caused over 3500 people to read this forum, over 400 just today. I admit that I have taunted you boys a little, it was fun and kept people reading this important thread. You guys have taken the time to call me a bigot and a hick and such. But be honest, when you think of someone standing up for his right to own a gun without the government nose involved, don't you always think of a guy with three teeth, wearing cammo, practicing war games on weekends. Well I'm no more of a biased bigot than anyone of you. In my career I've flown some of the wealthiest, most powerful people in the world. Its true I don't trust the government that we just removed and for good reason. Many have been sent to prison where they should be. As I said, where is Allan Rock? That piece of crap had his sights set on the most powerful seat in the land. There is absolutly no reason not to trust the citizens of Canada to contol their own hunting and target shooting guns. There is no reason to attack a law abiding gunsmith take his home and put him and his family through a living hell when he has been nothing but an upstanding member of society. He has never nor will ever be a treat to anyone but face seizure of his property and a long stretch in prison. Put yourself in his place. The way to stop this is for people to send a message that we will stand together against injustice. This was my pupose when I started on this tread. Oh what the hell, its only one family being destroyed, why would the massive population of Canada give a damn. Remember when Arar was sent to Syria. The media exposure changed this country, to bad a small part of that couldn't work here. I hear soon you won't be able to smoke and drive. Now there's a cause worth fighting for.

Hey shimmydampner. When the bear thing was going down the slogan was ' one orphaned bear is to many" Well in one summer we had three people killed by bears and quite a few mauled. Guess they didn't have a flashlight. One guy got dragged from his tent and the whole crew around him couldn't beat the bear off. They had to get in a truck and keep running into it until it let go. Aother was a female doctor from Toronto. She was killed. I say one dead doctor is too many. We are short of doctors not bears.

Do you know her personally? She could be dumber than a turd. She is reading from a script! This isnt neccesarily her thoughts. Sure she probably believes what the government is doing to her dad is wrong (which IMO it is) however lets not give her more credit than shes worth.

Okay Mr. Dipshit. A little respect is shown here.
Google "English Bill of Rights 1689", those rights were passed down to Canada when the French were defeated.
You seem to be missing the point. There is no need for paranoia to engulf the entire nation because southerners are afraid to handle guns and sharp pointy things. Never mind, sharp pointy things are legal at least for now. You have the numerical advantage and with it should come some responsibility.
Now why do you feel the need to dictate to everyone? A mature voting public would realize that other regions with lesser voting representation have legitimate issues of their own which may conflict with the ruling majority.
Would you rather handle a gun, get trained in its use, than be helpless when one is stuck in your face?
In most instances there will not be the army, navy and the swat team handy to bail you out. A bullet flies faster than dial 911.
Stick around boy, you'll learn something yet.

Well niss mabe we shouldn't give her credit for having more common sense than we can prove, but mabe no less either. How old was Anne Frank when she wrote a diary in her own words? Was she just another whining Jew? Her diary is considered to be a historical document. Should we just throw it in the trash because of her age? It seems I always end my posts with an insult but speaking of turds, it looks your ready to drop one in your pants on your avatar.
Shimmy dampner, nice pictures, at times I do think the only scenery urban people can appreciate is the inside view of a shopping mall. I guess it wouldn't hurt any of us to go pour a drink and let the keyboard cool off.

You're right.
Time to cool down, let me check the news and see how many southerners have been killed in their homes today. No protection because Allan Rock said the police would guarantee their safety.
I've got a machete. Anyone sticks his hand through my door will be leaving his fingerprints, hell even his fingers, maybe his arm.
Southerners would prefer they break into their house with impunity.
Let the stupid bastards live that way.
I know this doesn't cover all southerners. I spent 3 years going to college down there. They had no idea where I came from. Not even after I told them. Their attention seems to be aimed south to the great USA where they get their fashions from, their role models, but not their liberties.

I can't disagree with that. That's always too bad when someone gets killed by a bear. Like the registry, the bear hunt, in my opinion is flawed. You were absolutely right, the original intent of this thread has been lost. While we disagree on the people of southern Ontario, I'm pretty sure we both agree that the gun regestry is flawed and there is nothing wrong with guns or owning them.
Spooky, sorry I was so rough.

Hey Shimmydampner, you aren't bothering me.
This whole forum is about speaking your piece.
Anyone can't hack it, go home.
As I understand it, the law is to protect citizens not criminals.
There is a family, that's a family, man and woman and children that are facing the consequences of this well-meaning but practical monstrosity.
Bruce Montague faces life in prison because of this stupid legislation.
We had a perfectly worded gun legislation before Alan Rock came on board and brought us into this paranoia.
Let's roll back the clock, regain our sanity, and ask what this is costing us.
Two billion dollars is money well spent if the intent of the law matches the outcome.
Banning something will not stop acquition. This was proven by prohibition
and will be proven again in the homes of our people.
Police are not everywhere, never will be, if you don't take steps to secure your own security you could end up as an episode on crime stories.
The main thing to remember is that criminals don't give a shit about bans.
But they hope that you will respect their right to do what they want with you and your family.
Bruce Montague has been paying with his job, his life, his family's life and probably his future.
Why, I'll probably never understand. I wouldn't do it, would you?
Maybe we should build a statue.

I've lived in NWONT my entire life, almost 60 years. We have never had a bear problen, regulated hunting kept the bear population at an exceptable level. Never heard of anyone attacked by bears and seldom a complaint about nuicance bears. Now as I go walking or jogging, I have encountered bears a number of times within the town limits. Many have to be euthanized because of danger to children etc. moose to us is like oil to an Arab. Moose numbers are plummeting, one reason is a bear can smell a cow about to calf a mile away, the calf is killed many times before it hits the ground. We have never had a problem with firearms. There is the very rare shooting or suicide but nothing will ever change that. People where expected to handle their weapons with safety and respect, which they did. There was and is no reason for the government to become involved and waste a billion+++++ on this insanity. If for one second I thought this stupidity would make the citizens or the police safer, I would register my fish filleting knife. It wont, but puting all that tax revenue into more officers, newer cars and the newest crime fighting technology would make a considerable difference. Onceacop would probably agree. I think the people of Canada are well qualified to contol, use ,store and handle their firearms without this government interference. We have one of the best countries in the world but that dosen't mean we can't make it better. If our tax dollars are reinvested in our country instead of wasted and shared with a bunch of crooks this could be a model country to the rest of the world. My focus will now return to trying to help an innocent man stay in his home with his family. Thanks to everyone for reading this forum and being so passionate with your commentary.

Not funny...
"Anybody who has a firearm should have taken a firearm safety training course," he said. "Any firearms in the house where people haven't been trained in their safe use should be locked up, should be securely stored.
Don't they have to be locked up, period, and stored unloaded? While not having a gun in the house would clearly have prevented it, I'm wondering what the kid was doing unsupervised with a loaded rifle.
