Agreed... Of course we all want to believe that we work for the 'Next Big Thing' in aviation, if it were only true! LOL A start-up (like Sky) will paint nice pictures to attract the people they need. Maybe they believed some of it themselves in the beginning, we were getting lines from management like:
-"We know the pay isn't were it should be, but we will address it after start up."
-"If we do a good job with the E175 we might get ALL the E190's and possibly some 319s"
-"We want to be the best Airline in Canada to work for"
-"FO's will upgrade as soon as they are ready and have the required time, despite the 'Seniority list'"
Ahh, after all these years I can't believe that airlines can still "work" employees and they actually buy it. They're gonna dangle that stuff in front of you like a dirt farmer dangles a carrot in front of a mule............like a shark fisherman with a bucket of .........Like a shrimp farmer.....

Someone here knows that reference!

hahaha you got it!

I thought we pilots are on average "smarter" then that....

anyways, Reg. Rat, thanks for the square and fair update on the Sky....too bad, I really hope things improve, but I don't see how when everyone is trying to squeeze a buck in this industry...

Cheers

Almost all of the left seat types that I know of are there to hit the magic number and then leave. Any talk of a 'career' at SKY is a joke. Improvements will only come when SKY management cannot meet its commercial schedule obligations to AC due to pilot attrition. And even then, why would anybody stay? When the CPA with SKY is up for renewal they will either get underbid by some other 'new' outfit or will tell the pilots that they cannot afford to increase costs in order to retain the work.

SKY is a dead end.

All correct... Sadly.

Counting down 2 more days until they publish their "PAY DETAILS", not RAISE, DETAILS!!! They said that Friday August 1st they would release their new "incentives" which is SR speak for putting up yet another smoke-screen! It's just rewording, repackaging of the same S#!T-sandwich, and a sprinkling of pennies on top... Which might fool the small/weak minded. I DO NOT expect to see anything worth talking about.

Meanwhile, looks like Sky Regional is coming apart at the seams! In the last weeks:

1) A very respected and trusted Manager/Training scheduler was mysteriously fired, (probably sticking up for somebody).
2) The DFO resigned and took a better job elsewhere.
3) A VERY RESPECTED Captain, that headed the Pay Committee, acted as an intermediate between Pilots and management and worked with management to TRY and make our jobs better... WAS FIRED FOR NO OBVIOUS REASON!!!!! He was too smart and too diplomatic to have done anything stupid or really fall out of line... Explain that one!?

Added to a few other outstanding individuals that have disappeared from the office... I'd say the writing is on the wall! Management has started to 'Step-on-the-Throat' of the Pilot group, clean-out progressive managers and solidify/ensure their dictorial-policies... And our COO used to send out emails saying words like: Team/Family and I quote; "We will be the best place to work in Canada"!..
Just look how far we've come in less than 2 years!
Sounds F'N GREAT!!!

Back with the "Update" in a few days folks.

Regional Rat ..

I feel for ya bro .. hopefully the stars will align and the decision makers at AC will realize that this experiment isn't working and costing too much money. The ideal situation would be to roll you into Jazz but just because that makes sense to us as pilots doesn't mean the bean counters see the same thing.

I ran into a Jazz FO .. or I thought he was .. Now he's a DEC at SKR. He didn't have a negative thing to say but I think its just the left seat talking ... I wonder what he'll say when the "new-ness" wears off and reality sets in?

Cheers.

Russ and Rovinescu aren't about to give up their Cash-Cow!!! We are not a 'Low-Cost' just a 'Low-Pay' Airline. The creation of this company saved 10 million, Russ' bonus was about 4.2 million so Rovinescu got the other half and nothing passed on to PAX, shareholders or leveraged against AC debt... Pretty easy math.

If the DFO quit, that's not good. He is a solid guy. A number of captains are leaving for overseas opportunities as well, so hopefully this disgraceful operation is feeling the pinch. Lots of promise here to be a decent regional airline that is let down by how it is being run. Very unfortunate.

Regional Rat,

Thanks for posting facts and updates. It is time for the public at large as well as the pilot community to see what is really going on at these little 'boutiques' that attempt to build a business model that is based on discounting the market value of pilots. It must pain them once they realize that they bid below their costs and that picking the pilots pockets is the only way to keep the ship afloat.

Truth hurts and the harder some try to hide it the greater need that there is to tell the story. These types of owners/managers have existed in the past but thankfully most of them and the airlines that they ran have become just footnotes in the history of commercial aviation in Canada.

Pay the going rate or close shop. Pilots can make that happen by saying 'no thanks' when it comes to these opportunistic operators that think they can rely on typical pilot behaviour in order to lower the bar. Individually we can either be the most effective agent for change or our own worst enemy.

If you look at your paycheque and are embarrassed by it then you only have yourself to blame.

p.s. Jazz/CHR should acquire SKY. Would be a good operational and fleet fit. No way that Russ is going to sell though as the purpose of SKY is to set a lower CPA benchmark and that sale would not be in keeping with the current AC agenda.

These "Express" execs are taking money right out of the pocket of every pilot in the country to fund their lovely fat bonuses.
If you are thinking of taking a positon with one of these carriers, PLEASE think long and hard about the long term consequences to ALL concerned.

I see Sky Regional is advertising for Dash 8 Captains and FO's ( must be type rated  ). It will be interesting to see how many takers they get.

SKY/AC should give up on the Q400 ops and assign those aircraft to Jazz. SKY should focus on being able to complete the E175 flying portion of the CPA in the face of what appears to be a significant attrition rate of their more experienced pilots.

Probably a few less than Encore is getting. Same crummy pay but with no opportunity for advancement.

Hey Regional Rat,

If you hate the place so much, why haven't you left yet? Nothing personal but it does sounds you have a vendetta against SR.

How do you know what is the guy's situation? Maybe he has no choice at the moment, had a PFO or two and no he's stuck somewhere where he thought it would be a good place to work for. Point is he's telling straight up how things are there....wish more people had the guts to do the same. Fair and square....whether is Sky, Encore, GGN, Jazz or even AC and WJ....

So we got our new pay scale announcement last night. It's like the most convoluted pay structure I've seen so I'll just break it down for you. We still have base salaries plus an hourly credit. Credit doubles and triples depending on your block hours over 80 or over 85. Over 90hrs is still overtime rate of 1.5 times your full salary plus credit.

Introduced a RRSP match up to 5% over 6 years.

Basically on your anniversary date you get a 2% raise.
On Jan 1st if each year you get a inflation increase based on the CPI to a max of 1.5%

We still have a 5% guaranteed profit share portion.
Now also get up to 2.5% OTP incentive bonus.

All that being said they I'll break it down for you with all the above minus the pension cuz that shouldn't be considered salary.

Based on 85hrs a month...

Yr1 Cpt: $82481. Yr1 FO: $49724
Yr2 Cpt: $85183. Yr2 FO: $51350
Yr3 Cpt: $87296. Yr3 FO: $52624
Yr4 Cpt: $89460. Yr4 FO: $53928
Yr5 Cpt: $91676. Yr5 FO: $55264
Yr6 Cpt: $93509. Yr6 FO: $56369

After 6 yrs we just get the CPI increases. We'll have to work on that later.

Those are the facts. Just the facts. Once again those numbers are based on 85hrs a month and include everything except per diems (duh!) and pension.

Someone else posted the Jazz pay scale so I'm posting the Sky payscale. No more rumours or guesswork. Just facts. If you like it then apply. If you don't then don't. At least you have real info to work with.

Please send that pay scale to WJ/Encore/WJPA so that they will see that they are now officially the bottom feeder of the industry in 75 seat aircraft.

But hey, you get to tell your neighbours that you are a WJ pilot (sort of.....)
