bobo wrote:The video that Blakey posted earlier with the Barkley Grow on floats being identified by the narrator, is actually a beech 18. The Barkley Grow rudders have a fin sticking out of them horizontally and the beech has no fin sticking out of the rudder. Also the shape of the nose is different along with the shape of the nacelles.
Good catch. Poster "Beech 18" pointed that out to me in a PM.
Confirmation of post #142: this aircraft mentioned is a Beech S18B c/n 173 registered N18569 christianed -Kofresi-.
Have a look here http://theoregonchristensens.com/oldplanes/page3.html
and scroll to the middle!
The Barkley-Grow T8P-1 is an airplane, which is very often confused with other similar aircraft!

I took this shot in October 1979 shortly after the aircraft arrived in YYC. I recall that it was moved by road from Chestermere and Roy Staniland played a major role in having it moved to YYC. I hope this picture helps.

Barkley Grow CF-BMG.
This photo was found on the internet.
Photographer not known.
Aircraft appears to be having repairs carried out.
The vertical stabs have been removed and the back ends of the floats look to be damaged.
BMG looks like it is on a barge.
I am a volunteer at the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley, BC. I have been going through the photo files looking for buried treasure! Sure enough there are some Barkley-Grow photos that I have never seen online. One is of -BQM being lifted by a crane at a dock - obviously been submerged. This is not the setting for -BMG at Port Alberni - a Canadian Pacific aircraft. The photos of -BQM show the Pacific Western markings - as in the October 2016 posting by arrrthur.
But I have not seen reference to -BQM being dunked at a dock. The location looks like the Fraser River in Richmond. The photo frame shows the date as Oct 58. Any clues about the incident?

Here is a photo of BQM after sinking at a dock in Norway House MB in the fall of either 1969 or 1970. After that the trail gets a bit hazy. The previous photo of it on wheels may have been taken at the Cartierville Airport in Montreal. Just a WAG on my part but BQM may have been shipped to Montreal for repairs after the dunking. It wound with an owner in Montreal before Roy Staniland bought it and ferried it to Calgary.

I have prepared a booklet on the Barkley-Grow that is available on request from the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley, BC.
Send an email to: info@canadianflight.org
It covers most of the significant history of the T8P-1 - as accurate as 80 year old history can be!
A small donation would be appreciated if you think it is worth it - all museums are suffering from closures or restrictions on visitors.
On the Museum website there is a section on TechTalk that features other aircraft in the Museum's collection - Harvard, Waco, Fleet and Tiger Moth. Take a look. http://www.canadianflight.org/content/techtalk

Have been browsing some of the photos at Canadian Museum of Flight and came across some interesting shots of the Barkley-Grow that I haven't seen before.

One of these clearly shows the Canadian Pacific logo.
Another one is labeled on the photo as, 'Peace River airport. photo by John Davids YEG' This shows a Pacific Western DC-3 and also a Barkley-Grow with engines running. The registration appears to be CF-BLV - the aircraft that crashed at Peace River in January 1960.

Here's another stray photo from off the internet. This time from; https://archives.rcaf.museum
with credits to Ronald Knight.
This is the only B-G photo but lots of Canadian historical aircraft photos.
This photo is of BMG with its original registration in three-dimensional lettering (that upset D0T!). Yukon Southern on the fuselage.

Another photo from the Museum files BMW. In same Pacific Western color scheme as BQM above. Also looks like the same location - Fraser River in Richmond, BC?
