Re: Enerjet
WJ Vacations is a concern for all tour operators.your a very confused individual if you think that the charters that WJ was doing for Transat were a signifigant factor in where they are today. your a complete moron if you think WJ vacations is a concern for Transat. I never said don't have an opinion, just don't be suprised when you get bitch slapped for being dumb.
A few months ago Conquest (or Sunquest?) shut its doors. This winter you're going to see a significant increase into the Caribbean by WJ. You don't think WJV is a concern for Transat when those flights are into very popular markets served by Transat? Sunwing is also a concern to all tour operators. We seem to say this every year but this winter is going to be an interesting year.
Re: Enerjet
Just for info. PUJ to YEG is 3395nm. I think a B737 will need to do a tech stop somewhere. That farther that to Hawaii from YEG.

Canada's Government Designates More Canadian Carriers to Serve Mexico
OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 25, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister, John Baird, today announced changes to air designation allocations for scheduled Air Canada, Air Transat, WestJet and Sunwing air services between Canada and Mexico, which will benefit travellers and our country's tourism industry.
"I am pleased with these changes and additions, which will provide more options for the travelling public and shippers," said Baird. "It will encourage competition, innovation, and growth in the Canadian airline industry, and promote international travel options for consumers from both countries."
Under the Multiple Designation Policy, as applied under Canada's international air transportation policy, all Canadian air carriers may apply to the Minister for designation to operate scheduled international air services. These latest designations were made possible by the 1961 Canada-Mexico bilateral Air Transport Agreement, as amended in 1999 and 2007.
"This is excellent news for our tourism industry. Mexico is a growing market for Canada," said Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State for Small Business and Tourism. "There will now be more routes to take visitors to the spectacular destinations and attractions our country has to offer."
"Increased air access to Canada for the growing Mexico market is an important development that is a good step in meeting the tourism industries needs," said Randy Williams, President and CEO of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada.
A backgrounder regarding the new airline designation allocations between Canada and Mexico is attached.

Re: Enerjet
I don't think what you posted is really related to the conversation.
Any carrier can fly between Mexico and Canada if they want to operate as a charter. Given that I don't think Enerjet plans to start as a sched carrier to Mexico anytime soon I don't think it affects them.

Re: Enerjet
Yep, it certainly looks like they flew that route...question is, was it full passengers and their luggage, or a ferry flight...I seem to recall a few years back of a west jet pilot telling me that they were planning to operate a scheduled YYC-HNL-YYC with their latest B737. I told him that it would be tight even flying a YVR-HNL-YVR route. I know that there are times (HNL-YVR) when they make an enroute fuel stop along the US coast line especially when the weather is marginal and alternates are few and far between. In winter it is even more restrictive since the upper winds become another factor....
Re: Enerjet
When WS first started that route they made a few stops. Someone correct if I'm wrong but I think something like 20 seats are always open i.e. not sold on the HNL flights.ez4u2say wrote:Yep, it certainly looks like they flew that route...question is, was it full passengers and their luggage, or a ferry flight...I seem to recall a few years back of a west jet pilot telling me that they were planning to operate a scheduled YYC-HNL-YYC with their latest B737. Re: Enerjet
The tech stop is rarely required (only once last winter that i am aware of) and it would be unlikely to happen on the HNL-YVR leg as the winds are usually significantly more favourable on the return to Vancouver. We played it very conservative at the beginning carrying much more than the required fuel but, now that the ETOPS program has matured, flights are rarely capped. Think i did one last winter that was capped at around 160 to carry additional fuel to avoid a stop in EUG or SFO to top up the tanks before carrying on.
Re: Enerjet
Whiteguy, in the first year of operations we capped the aircraft at 150/166 seats. The second year we capped the aircraft at 160/166 seats. Last year and, I'm assuming, this year the aircraft was capped at 160 leading up to the days before departure and then opened up to 166 depending on the weather.

Re: Enerjet
Hey, I heard that Enerjet's 37's have a strange cabin layout. 12 first class seats, which is not so weird, but apparently there is no galley in the back? just lavs???? why would airtran order it that way? kind of limits the use of the plane when there is limited galley/food space. The only thing I can think of is that airtran wanted the cabin layout to be the same as their DC9's/717's??? any thoughts?
Re: Enerjet
Were delivered in Air Tran configuration then were converted over to a 137 pax layout.

Jets currently have seating for 137 guets in a three lavatory setting (1 up front, 2 in the back).

Big announcement by WJA today regarding winter seasonal service to hot spots down south. That can't be good for any attempts by Enerjet to start up their own tour/travel business. I wonder if it will even get off the ground now?

I wouldn't be comparing EnerJet and WestJet and were they stand in their respective vacation operations...They are so far apart it is not worth mentioning. EnerJet is looking to partner-up with someone and get their business off the ground. WestJet is looking get away from partners and do their own thing, both have their up and down sides.
EnerJet has overhauled it's business plan from growth to survival and I think if they can get through this tough time they will reap the rewards and be a definite player in the vacation sector.

Re: Enerjet
Enerjet may be in a tight spot.
Suncor flying has not picked back up and the main project that they were flying workers to, Firebag/Fort Mckay does not have a timetable for re-opening.
Any tour operators that were looking at Enerjet for charters can dilute their risk by using WestJet's scheduled service. I wondwer how long they can ride out not having a lot of money coming in. I also heard that they did not get the greatest rates on the machines from Air Tran. Maybe in this economy they have renegotiated but the economy was much better when they first got them.
