Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Dear Inverted2; I was not suggesting that you are, were, or ever will be a jerk. All I did was ask a hypothetical question: "what if you were...". This was to suggest that the company has lots of ways to eliminate applicants, many of which if you really examined it to the extreme could be considered disciminatory. Is that fair?If I was a jerk as you are suggesting
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
I agree with you 100% but my point was that if a fully qualified (not a jerk!) employee with a cat 1 medical who might not have perfect vision for example is turned down, then that is discrimination. Imagine if a large company decided not to hire people in wheelchairs because they didn't want to put in ramps? I know its not a great example but you get my drift....
Im not saying hire guys with 1 foot in the grave by any means

Not hire a guy with one foot in the grave???
Why not? 'Cause the company doesn't want to go to the expense of paying to train, then have him die,(maybe) then replace him? Now THAT'S discrimination my friend.
Arguing human rights on principle alone is SUCH a bore. Give me a specific example with all the details. Then we can talk.

Forget it, Im not going to debate with you anymore. You obviously are not too sharp on the subject, maybe Jazz should hire you based on your learning disability!

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Anybody know how many have been hired how many in the interview process and how many still to go.......is it safe to say that should wrap things up for a good while once they intake the 50-60 or so anticipated as well due to AC cash position-just wondering how clear things are during the progression
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
So does anybody have any knowledge of a case where a pilot has challenged company for not hiring him on grounds of discrimination? Medical, age, disability or any other reason?

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
I dont think anyone has officially been hired yet. There have been a few people go through the interviews, I think maybe they are just about to start some of the sim evals. There's 57 vacancies total right now, first g/s will probably be mid next month and they'll probably do 1 g/s per month for the forseeable future. They like to have 8-10 people in each class, so there will probably be about 5-7 classes minimum.Rex Kramer wrote:Anybody know how many have been hired how many in the interview process and how many still to go.......is it safe to say that should wrap things up for a good while once they intake the 50-60 or so anticipated as well due to AC cash position-just wondering how clear things are during the progression
I'd imagine interviews will continue over the next few months to fill these spots. G/s will probably run throughout spring and summer.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Thank you C-HRIS. That's what I was also interested in.
Is there anyone else out there who got an interview that would like to share their experience level?
I was hoping to get a call, but it seems that I am a little low on time... hey all you higher time guys applying to Jazz, pull out and head to West Jet.
They're hiring now!!!

Just got the call, too. 3000TT, 1500 MPIC. Are we crazy to take this job before contract renegotiations? In some ways, I feel like the sheep going out to the slaughter.

It's much more complicated than that... but I can tell you that I think $40K to start is likely not going to happen.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Are there many folks that would have been accepted last fall, just prior to the halt of training? IE A pool of folks awaiting a groundschool?
Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Last I herd, the college grads from 2008 are one of the first up for the ground schools this year. I hope people treat them with respect instead of all the other stuff I've seen on this forum to date! Are there many folks that would have been accepted last fall, just prior to the halt of training? Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Well, I don't work for Jazz, but I wish they would give me a call. And to be honest, it's quite frustrating and aggravating to know that a guy with a fresh CPL is in a ground school for Jazz and I can't even get a call.dream_big wrote:Last I herd, the college grads from 2008 are one of the first up for the ground schools this year. The reason these guys don't get respect... although I think it is more of a snubbing... is because they're Seneca guys with no experience. Seneca guys already have bad attitudes to begin with from my experience. Now, they get to go right seat RJ, while pilots like myself with more experience and skills remain unemployed. What's the difference between this and say, hiring a man of colour simply because he is of colour. The pilot who is best fit for the job should be given the first chance and no college grad out there is better fit than a pilot with real industry experience.
Not to mention, 2008 grads??? How many of them didn't bother to go and get other jobs? Did they just sit around and wait for Jazz to open back up the hiring? I guess they didn't want anything to do with a King air, or Caravan, or Twotter... they must be too good for that.
In the end, college grads/fresh CPL's will always have a hard time in a situation like this... the simple reason is they don't belong there. And you can't blame other pilots for holding small feeling of resentment against them. They've been given something that others had to work really hard for and you can never tell by their attitudes that they've been given something so precious. They take it for granted because they don't know any better.
If you are one of these grads dream_big, I'm not picking on you... this is just the way the majority of people feel. And it will never change.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
Sorry, I'll also add that if I was to be paired with one of these "grads", I would give them respect. I would be professional and courteous. Most pilots out there will...
Fresh CPL's, do yourself and everyone else a favour. Go get some real industry experience first. You will have a lot fun with a lot of real experience pilots out there. You will be better for the experience as far as skills and general life experience goes and your future co-workers/peers will respect you more. You will be an all around better pilot. Not to mention, telling family/friends/co-workers stories about shooting approaches and flying in the north, etc. is a lot more interesting than talking about shooting the ILS in YYZ.

Re: hiring at Jazz!!!
For those of you who were not around flying just after Sept 11th, Jazz was hiring right up to the layoffs, then it was 5 years. With AC on rocky ground, and the economy the same, and 95% of JAzz flying AC flying, I would really have a long second look at this. You may be walking away from a good job to Jazz only to be looking for work within the year.
Not knocking Jazz, just making a point. Those jets will always be around, and more 703/704 time won't hurt, but not flying will.
I hope it works out for everyone.
